I'm in the market to upgrade my PC and wondering which processor is the best ?
I'm wanting to get which ever is the best performance wise. I've held off because I was considering the new Intel processors until the issues with processors burning up was discovered.
I'm wondering what is the better processor at the moment. Intel or AMD?
I'm looking for a processor that is going to be a good all round performer?

Can you:
- Tell us your budget for the whole PC.
- Tell us how you use your PC (e.g. gaming, photography) and the priority of each (e.g. if gaming is 90% of what you do, say so).

The reason the above is important, is because this is a "How long is a piece of string?" question, since it depends on your usage, preferences and obviously the price too.

It is better to fit your choice to your budget rather than just saying "I want an Intel CPU".

All that said, if you have a big budget (e.g. £1k5+) and you're primarily a gamer, then you just buy a 9800X3D. End of story.

I am just going to focus on the processor for now.
I'm looking for the best one there is hoping to snag a black friday deal.
Are the Intel cpus fixed now with the chip code or if that enforced at motherboard bios level ?

I'll be using the processor for everything. I'd like a powerhouse good for all applications.

We don't know, is the honest answer. It will take years before we know if they still degrade.

I'll be using the processor for everything.
Can you define: "everything" more specifically.

Some typical use cases:
- Gaming.
- Programming.
- Game development (e.g. Unreal Engine 5).
- Video editing.
- 3D modelling/rendering.
- Photography.
- AI.

If gaming is not a big priority for you, then ANY current CPU can potentially meet your needs quite well, e.g. Core Ultra 265K, i7-14700K, AMD 9900X, but without a budget and a clear use case I'm still ******* in the dark here.

What is the best all round helicopter?

The best all round CPU is probably, mostly the highest end EPYC part. EPYC 9965 £11,000

The best CPU's no matter what you're doing with it is AMD at the moment so it only remains to know what you need it for and what you're budget is?

If you want multithreaded productivity and some gaming the best is a Ryzen 9950X or a Ryzen 7950X, just gaming alone the 9800X3D is unbeatable with the 7800X3D coming in second best.
