New Project Help - Please

looking at this pic I can probably fit a second 240mm in the front very easily, I dont need all those bays.. leaning towards 2 X 240mm atm

What res did you use for a dual loop? Does any res work as long as it has 2 ins and 2 outs? Any special considerations?

I actually used the XSPC dual DDC reservoir, which they don't seem to make any more (probably because it's quite noisy).

Any reservoir will work as long as it has two ins and outs.

There aren't really any special considerations.

The overwhelming advantage of having two loops is flow rate. If you have one pump, pumping fluid around a 2m long loop it will only pass through the radiator half as often as it will on 2 1m loops which have a pump each. And that's assuming the pump is equally capable of driving double the water, which it probably is these days.

Don't bother cooling the mobo. It's pointless.

its not entirely pointless.

whilst it is pointless on some boards, other boards have good gains. its a chance you take really.

my X58 UD7 was epic when it was on water, so it depends entirely on what you want to do with your system.

a MB waterblock gives a lot of headroom on the right board if you have a good loop with lots of cooling capacity and know what you are doing.

a poorly designed loop can be awful when a mb block is introduced.

im having one of those tip of the tongue moments, what are the things called which light up the UV on the tube? it comes in a strip which you usually stick around the window

I dont want to start a build log just yet but this will the basis for it. Please can you tell me if anything is wrong, missing etc...

My current computer is as follows:
Antec 300
ASUS Sabretooth 990FX
1 X MSI 560Ti Twin Frozr @ 1ghz
1 X OcUK 560Ti (currently removed due to instability issues with the PSU)
1 X 500GB SATA HDD
1 X 650W OCZ PSU
1 X AMD Phenom 840 x4
1 X Xigmatek Aeigir air cooler (idle @ 25; load @ 41)

I have ordered the following bits

1 X Corsair Professional 1050W (this was advertised as modular but I have since discovered it is "partly" modular.. I may return this)
1 X Corsair 650D
2 X Corsair Dominator 4GB, 1866MHZ, C9
2 X Crucial 128GB M4 - This will go in RAID 0 for OS + Games
1 X EK Supreme HF CPU Waterblock - Nickel Plexi
1 X EK Supreme HF GPU Waterblock – Nickel Plexi
2 X Hwlabs BlackIce 240mm SR-1 Radiator
1 X EK Multioption Reservoir X2 250 Advanced
1 X OcUK Tech Lab - D5 Vario Pump & Alphacool Clear HF D5 Top Value Combo
1 X Lamptron FC5 V2 5.25" Bay Fan Controller - Black
1 X Mayhems Aurora - Tharsis Red Coolant 1L
4 X Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1850 RPM - 3 Pin
1 X Masterkleer Hose Pack PVC 15,9/11mm (7/16ID) Clear 3.3m
2 X EK-PSC Adapter Rotary 90° G1/4 Nickel
2 X EK-PSC Adapter Rotary 45° G1/4 Nickel
12 X EK PSC Compression Fitting 7/16 [16/11mm] - G1/4 – Nickel
1 X MDPC "Christmas Special" - Black Sleeving
1 X MDPC Red Small Sleeving
1 X Unibond Double Sided Foam Mounting Tape
1 X Artic Silver
1 X Artic Silver Paste Cleaner

I am currently waiting/looking for:

1 X EK-RAM x4. Waterblock for Corsair Dominator RAM. Can’t seem to find any stock for this anywhere
1 X MSI Geforce 560Ti Twin Frozr 1GB to replace my OcUK card as I want them the same size
1 X Motherboard (probably Asus Z68 Pro, I’d prefer a red board though…)
1 X Waterblock for Motherboard
1 X CPU (I think I want the i5 2500K)
1 X Phobya 200mm Rad

With regards to the Z68/2500K I am bit short on funds at the moment but also undecided on what motherboard I want. I would ideally like red but red motherboards with a motherboard block seem to be limited to the Maximus.. which is long dollar!

2 X Crucial 128GB M4 - This will go in RAID 0 for OS + Games don't RAID them. They're fast enough already and you'll lose TRIM

2 X Hwlabs BlackIce 280mm SR-1 Radiator
4 X Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1850 RPM - 3 Pin
Rad and fans dont match up. You have 140mm rads with 120mm fans
1 X Artic Silver MX-4 is slightly better :D
1 X Artic Silver Paste Cleaner

Post in the CS section, i'm sure it can be sorted out. rjk added some RAM blocks for me to his EK order

Rampage extreme?

EDIT: if the rads you ordered are the same one as in the link, then it's fine. It's just that you wrote that it was a 280mm instead of 240 :)

There seems to be a lot of debate about raiding M4's or not... people have posted benchmarks of 1050MB/s in R0

I will do some benchmarks myself I think

I fixed up the 280mm typo

I'm pretty certain it would be better publicised if it was true. Was looking around earlier but couldn't find anything else on it

raiding the m4's wont make any difference that you would notice in real world...just means if it goes down you lose everything on them.....i would have bought 1 x 256gb instead of the 2 x 128gb as you get better speeds on the bigger ssd drive
