Well I'm the proud owner of a 160Gb slim as of yesterday, and having slated consoles for the last 13 years of gaming, I've got to say, it's a terrific bit of kit.

So, being not only new to the PS3, but also consoles, I was wondering what education and tips you guys might have, either from a PS3 perspective, or simply from consoles in general.

I've grabbed a few games from Cex to have a play which I'm thoroughly enjoying (NFS Shift, RE 5, Ass Creed 2, Lost Planet 2, Dead Space 2, Uncharted 2), and am scouting for a second controller for when mates come round.

So, what knowledge am I missing from my shiny new piece of tech?

Cheers!

One thing to note, be 100% sure of your gamer tag, cause otherwise you're going to have a register to a new email to change it (and in the process lose a ton of trophies).

It isn't released until early 2012, but keep an eye out for Metal Gear Solid HD collection as it is an HD remake of the PS2 (and a few other) ones.

They were brilliant and are certainly worth getting if you have not been gaming on consoles since pre-PS2 days!

Cheers guys. I got that deal, which stacked nicely with some vouchers I had. 138 in the end! Bargain.

Gamertag is sorted thanks, my days of being 'leetkillerprogamerfromtheinternet' are long gone :p.

I like sneaky stuff so I'll keep an eye out for that, thanks!

Metal gear solid hd collection is amazing I haven't tried peace walker yet, did play it on the PSP.

You should pick up infamous aswell mate and if you haven't played it before batman aa.

there are some excellent PSN games to try too

Wipeout HD + Fury (also out on disk)
pixel junk shooter 1&2
pixeljunk sidescroller
shatter
flower
limbo
and i'm also enjoying The Fancy Pants Adventures at the moment.

Also try the Rayman Origins demo if you like platformers. Beautiful game and lots of fun.

Thanks for all the replies guys :). Just had my initiation into the world of Final Fantasy 13, really enjoying it so far, much more relaxed experience than sitting at my PC!

It opens up after the first 20 hours or so I only finished it a week or so ago and really enjoyed it.

Also don't worry about upgrading weapons or anything until chapter 11 or later and try and finish mission 55 as soon as you are able because you get the Growth Egg which gives double AP. You are capable of getting the mission after mission 14 but you probably won't be strong enough. I used guides on GameFAQs :)
