new PSU calculator - Up to date!!

303w @100% or 323w with 4 120mm fans (as there never on it doesnt matter)
Using an old macron 300w psu

Xp3000
X800Xt
1gb ram
2 CD drivers
2 HD's

Never had any problems so dont see a point in getting a new PSU till i upgrade

"Amperage"?!!!!  :o

I wouldn't trust any site which uses this term. *Current* is measured in *amps*. "Amperage" is a term only used by those who know nothing about electronics!

If that's the case then you're not allowed to trust any site that uses the term "voltage" either. You and I both know that there's no such thing as voltage, only electric potential difference. Sure, the volt is the unit used to measure electric potential but purists like us cannot stand such corruption!

Chill out, dude. Amperage is perfectly acceptable in a non-technical publication.

Sure, I guess... it just annoys me when a site that claims to be able to work out how much power (not wattage ;) ) your computer needs, can't even use the right terminology. Doesn't send the right message...

209w at 80%
261w at 100%

Quite surprised - thought my Antec 350W might be starting to struggle :)

Well thats not accurate at all.

I get about 496 W at load which is unlikely really to happen

Im running 3800+ X2
2gb ddr
3 hdds
2 dvd rs
x800 pro

Unlike anyone I have actually measured the power usage of my pc using a WAtt meter at the plug,

And it uses..

260W when gaming battlefield 2 lol

And that includes 2 TFTS as well, as I checked the power of whole rig at once.

So thats <200W easily when loaded just for the base unit.

424W :?

I was over compsensating to begin with then dropped it a little more....

It did hit 628W to begin with, but i know thats wrong so i'm happy it says 424W now after dropping it a little.

Just glad my PC isnt always at load, though i fail to believe it can be accurate 100% anyway.

Well that says 350W for my system

But I've tried to draw as much power as i can by running orthos, ATI tool (it makes the GPU hot so must be stressing it somewhat) and copying files from a DVD to my HDD at the same time. The max reading my UPS says the computer is drawing is 170W, idle it draws 113W. The actual components themselves will be using less power of course due to the PSU not being 100% efficient.

So yeah i'd tend to agree that the site overestimates how much power will be drawn, but then again there's no harm in having a bit of overhead :)

I have to agree it doesnt calculate correctly, comes out with 691W 100% load and 552w 80%. Considering i have it at 100% most of the time my pc shouldnt even be working =/
