The barking is a problem. When she's outside, we give loads of things to chew and play with. I'm not convinced about the cage, but we are told that it's the best way of house training so she toilets outside.

Being tiny, I've only stepped on her twice!

Very nice, but could I suggest a bigger crate if you are using it for house training aswell. Barking will just be due to her being in unsure surrondings.

I will do a new post for Crates.

The reason crates are used is like most animals they don't like to sleep where they pee/poo so by keeping her in a small area she will learn quickly that she has to poo/pee outside if she doesn't want to sleep in it, but it can also lead to them not liking the crate and if not done right they can see it as a punishment to be put in there.

With Max we kept him in the kitchen (15' x 9'), which has laminate flooring, on a night time and made a fuss of him when he went for a pee/poo outside and kept an eye on him untill he was a few month old, now he wont go anywhere unless its on grass/sand.

Good luck for the pee/poo picking up tho :)

Put some throws or sheets over the cage itself, make it a bit of a den. Settled ours down no end :)

Both your dog and son are gorgeous! :)

Agree with the crate aswell, have you thought about picking up a dog training book. I've got a small hard back my mum gave us and its extremely useful.

Can anyone recommend pet insurance provider?

Look for one which covers the dog for its life time and not for "year to year" policy, as some insurers will void your insurance after the year if the dog has an on going problem, also look at the amount you can spend on vet bills.

I have E&L insurance and I am not sure if it is a lifetime cover but if it is not I will be changing it at the end of the first year.

Currently it is £12/month and gives 4.5k of vet bills with £60 excess, also gives you a reward if your dog stops a intruder.

I only wish I could find a cage big enough for mine :(

Does this mean you've tried? :p

Good advice.. thanks

never understood the whole cage thing.

It looks like you've got tiled floors in that rooms, let him have a bit of a play around :)

If he makes a mess, take him to it and tell him off, even better if you can catch him doing it.

Puppies, Totty!?

This thread promised so so much :p

That dog is excellent though, love the expression in the first photo.
