I use a 32KB stripe size, tried different sizes, 128KB, 64KB, 32KB and 16KB, and for "general" usage found 32 to be the best...others, I'm sure, will have a different opinion...
correct, it depends on what kind of files make up the majority of your array ....or what size of file you want to prioritise for speed......smaller the file size the lower stripe you want and vice versa.
i run a 1MB stripe on my Raid5 array as it's a media server storing only large files and this gives me the best performance.
