I am close to biting the bullet on my new rig. I dont want to pay more for a tested overclockable chip, HOWEVER

i am a little worried that.......

Is there a chance that failed overclockable chips are put into the pool of "untested" chips from ocuk?

whilst i dont want to pay a preimum i dont want to limit my chances by getting a chip which has already been tested and failed to 3.3ghz so wonder if i should get the chip from elsewhere and the rest of the stuff from ocuk..

or are all the chips brand new and never been tested.

cheers

M.

None of em have been opened and tested, they are al lstill fully sealed, if you got a for a retail, not to sure on the oem's

so a Q6600 which is tested to see if it runs at 3.2ghz, but fails.

so cant sell it as a guaronteed 3.2ghz chip, but if they are not put into general circulation with the untested chips, surely you cant send back to intel if they run at stock speeds.

I think all ocuk do is send out a normal chip and will take it back if it doesnt reach that speed, however it is unlikely that the Q6600's wont reach the speed it is garaunteed to do ^^

And if by some extremely rare chance it didn't, ocuk would sell it off as B grade stock cause it has been opened.

The fact that I have never seen ocuk selling a b grade q6600 means that they have never had any back which proves the point that all q6600 can do 3 or 3.2Ghz IMO.

Or no-one has bought one =)

Like all the other "boys & girls" in the business, all “merely” opened boxes, whereever possible, and it is always possible, just take a horizontal synergistic move to their "Systems division", unlike the catalogue operators who sell the whole "returns" kaboodle to pre-qualified bidders though the advent of fleaBay has made it easier for the likes of "Ahhrgosh". It is not only the "3rd World" that has recovery operators scavenging the rubbish dumps for a living. "1st World" scavenging operations are highly sophisticated and includes the real auctions industry [which are mostly scams and we are not talking about the new digital "mama-papa" arrival to the “auction” throne], "boot sales", "market" markets and more. There is real gold in 'em thar junk hills.

You have to love Cir108 - he's like the pub-singer of OcUK Forums - you can't really make out what he's on about, but it's entertaining enough to go on listening.

haha true, I didn't "understand" what he was saying from the begining but still "read through" the whole thing ;)

Have you ever seen a Q6600 that won't do 3.4GHz? 3.6GHz is a bit harder, but 3.2-3.4GHz is usually pretty easy.

Completely agree there, although i have actually seen one that will not go past 3ghz whatever board it's in, and with a crazy ammount of voltage pumped through to make sure.

I've Had quite a few q6600's go through my hands in the last year, and every one of them hit 3.2ghz on close to stock voltage (400x8) most of those should be able to do 3.6ghz if they can manage that fsb with such a low voltage.

Really is a great cpu for the price, especially as it can be pushed soo much further that it's stock speed.

Ive just got a G0 Q6600 from a rival. It has a vid of 1.325. i just bumped the FSB upto 400, dropped the multiplier to 8, and set the memory to 1:1 (giving a speed of 3.2ghz) and it runs fine without having to tweak the voltage. Ive Prime95'd the cpu for several hours, and seems solid :-)
