New rider, Bike required :)

Evening guys,

My girlfriend and I just recently did our CBT's and a looking to buy a geared 125 for us both to use until we have the experience to do DAS and get my dream bike... The Daytona 675

We're looking to spend abour £1k on the bike itself. Obvious candidates are the YZF R125 and the CBR125

Would anybody have any advice?

The Honda CBF125 is also a bike to consider, light, cheap and easy to ride! Should be able to pick up an 2010+ for around £1000, also cheaper to insure than the cbr 125 as the cbr is considered a sports bike

Yamaha YBR 125 or Honda CG125 - Easy to fix, easy to buy and easy to sell.

I would lean more towards something like this.

Slightly more than what you want to spend, looking through the adverts, if you spend £1k, you'll likely get one with no MOT and some damage.

Another +1 for the Honda CBF! It was my first bike.

It's cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap to repair a drop (so I'm told...

). Also a lot of fun to ride for a small bike.

I can't really comment on the others as it's the only 125 I've ridden, I'm sure they're all fun when it's your first time on the road. It's not at the kWh limit like most of the other 125s, but I hardly think it matters in a first bike/125.

Good choice, you won't go wrong with that. I did my CBT on one and loved it. I ended up buying a YBR125 to learn on, which was great too.

Just be careful with the CBF, there's an abundance of quality issues with them, including many failing to start in the recent hot weather!

If you have any problems, get onto the Honda dealer immediately. It's what you're paying for.

Too right! It's got a 2 yr warranty with breakdown cover so it will be used if needs be!

CBF 125

Yup well we're nearing the end of our house renovation... I'd rather put £100 deposit down and keep the other £900+ in the bank seeing as the finance was cheap.

Also the used 125s around that price were owned by scrotes... Its mainly for her to commute on so reliability and safety is more of a factor than if it were just for me scooting around town.

I've got my eye on DAS once I'm a little more competent

So how much was it? Surprised as the new model cb125f has just replaced the cbf125. Cbf125 is much better than the new one by the reviews.

Are you sure replaced? They still have both listed on their site... unless that's to get rid of old stock i guess.
