New rider, Bike required :)

We all have to start somewhere

What essentials would you recommend? I want a centre stand if it hasn't already. Also a bloke has recommened keeping on top of chain lubrication... And rust/general protection of the rest of the bike, what would you recommend for that?

With the chain I've been advised many times to just use Paraffin and Gear oil which is what I'm looking to do when I've run out of chain lube, especially as both are cheap.

As for the Centre stand I think the CBF125 comes with one as standard.

For rust prevention use wd40 and ac50

For chains I never bother cleaning them just a spray with chain lube every 500 miles or so

Rust prevention in general: ACF50

Chain lube: Castrol Racing lube (love the stuff, not a spot of rust on my chain whereas Wurth Dry would rust them up pretty quickly. Castrol also has anti rust stuff in it).

SDOC100 gel cleaner stuff also has anti-rust stuff in it and is an amazing and easy cleaner.

Edit: rather than a centre stand I would get something like the Abba superbike stand if it's compatible with your bike. They're compatible with loads of bikes so should last you a while & nicer than having a nasty centre stand :)

Nice one, not heard of ac50... Amazon/eBay as good a place as any for it?

Chain lube. Do you get wet and dry lube or is it just waxy stuff for all weather?

And yes it does come with a centre stand :)

Ooh I forgot... We've got it home!

Mel rode it home 20 miles or so, still struggling with pulling away but she's getting better...

I was.surprised with how well it rode tbh. Obviously you boys on proper bikes will no doubt find it laughable but I quite enjoyed it!

Loads of people swear by Wurth Dry chain lube for all weathers which is a wax, but after using it for about a year, my chain was rusty, dry and seemed to constantly need adjusting. I then went to a Scottoiler on my old bike which was a bit better, but needed constant flow adjustment and was messy, or didn't lube properly if you got it slightly wrong.

Recently I've been using Castrol racing lub.e You can get a pack of 6 bottles for £40 from eBay which is about £6 a bottle (bargain). Me and my brother have been using it in all weather and not had a spot of rust and keeps the chain nice on both sides.

I use the castrol chain lube, and wd40 for the sidestand/footrest pivots and handlebar switchgear and locks

Depends on your budget really.

There's the Abus Provogue which is really decent for the price. Then there's the Xena XX15 alarmed locked which is one of the most expensive but (supposedly) more secure.

I would go for the Almax IV series with Squire lock. If you think you might take the chain out with you, then the Almax III is a bit more manageable in a back pack.

Then the Xena XX15 alarmed disk lock.

Is it living outside? If so, also get the Oxford Stormex: http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/46433. It's a little pricey, but has a hole at the front where you can thread the chain through so you're effectively locking the cover as well.

I have the Almax III at 2meters in length and by no means would you want it in a rucksack, at least not in one while its on your back lol.

As for disclocks I have the Xena XX14 alarmed which is perfect for popping in the ruck sack and popping on the bike when heading out somewhere where I can still keep an eye on the bike (should the alarm go off).

).

So do I. It's not too bad, just not very comfortable over distance. For a 10-20 min pop into town or something it'd be fine.

In fact, if you want to carry a decent lock around, get the Kriega US-10 tail pack. A little expensive, but worth the price - fully waterproof and amazing quality. Only problem I had is it'd slide into my back over a few miles, which got incredibly uncomfortable over a few hours riding. I've only used it once like that long distance, so next time I'll just pack something soft at the bottom so it doesn't lean directly on me, or just make the whole thing tighter so it doesn't slide.

Edit: then, if you get the Kriega US-10 you can get the matching back pack, which looks awesome. I would have done if I didn't already have my Knox.
