Well here it is

some of you may have seen various posts I have made in other sections as I deliberated over my choice of hardware for the new machine

here is the list for those of you that may be interested

(For those that have not followed it note the low end CPU will make way for a quad core next year...)

It all looks good, will the 7300gt also make way for something decent later on or are you not much of a gamer? You could also look at the Corsair 620w PSU, it is basically the Seasonic M12 but a shade cheaper. :)

Hi

Thanks for the tip on the PSU
and no not much of a gamer so not too worried about GPU

needs to be quiet and fast for multiple office apps plus HDTV

Nevyn

Hi

I just added a SATA drive and a SATA DVD-RW which means it tips the scales at £900 inc VAT

On the other post
I just looked at the corsair 620 and they are out of stock
I should also state the Seasonic is on a "this week only deal" so it is a few quid cheaper

Thanks anyway

erm the 7300gt you have listed is extremely overpriced for what it is. (assuming the price you have in brackets is the exc vat price) for another tenner or so you can get a 7600GT which would last you quite a bit longer or save £20 or so and get the standard 7300GT GDDR3.

This one:

OcUK GeForce 7300 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Price: £49.99 (£58.74 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Thanks Owen

Is the GPU you recommend gonna be quiet as one of the main requirements here is noise reduction, this is a living room PC that will play movies via a projector and I don't want any hum

Thanks for the info

Nevyn

PS
While I am at it I am not sure about the HSF, lot of people seem to be getting the Arctic freezer
is this gonna be quieter than my choice and will it handle the quad core OC'd when I get one ?

Well now the GPU question raised by Owen has really put the cat among the pigeons

I had a little look and noticed ...

1) the GPU I chose does not have dual DVI (mistake)
2) in the 7900/7950 section there are a couple of cards that state support for HDCP

So witht he second point in mind I am now re-considering as I really could do with future proofing myself for HDCP as this will be my movie playing box via the projector

anyone have any comments on this new requirement?

are these cards really HDCP compliant with regards to the encryption keys etc.

I have also posted in the graphics card section

Nevyn

I am not really sure about the HDCP compliancy of the 7900 series however here is a snippet taken from the nvidia website about the tech on the 7900 series:

nvidia said:
NVIDIA® PureVideo™ Technology
Dedicated on-chip video processor
High-definition H.264, MPEG2 and WMV9 decode acceleration
Advanced spatial-temporal de-interlacing
Inverse telecine (2:2 and 3:2 pull-down correction)
High-quality video scaling
Video color correction
Microsoft® Video Mixing Renderer (VMR) supports multiple video windows with full video quality and features in each window

Taken from Here

I don't know if that helps you or not.

Also the basic 7300GT GDDR3 fan shouldn't be too loud (or not loud enough to be distracting anyway).

Sorry to screw up your decision making mate! :)

EDIT: I see no mention of HDCP anywhere on the Nvidia website so I don't know why some of the OCUK write ups have it in them.

No worries Owen

New thread posted as spec has changed a bit and will cause confusion
