New Rig help!!

Hi all, I have helped my friend order his new pc.

This is what he ordered.

Ati HD 3850PRO Powercolor
Asus DVD burner
Western Digital caviar 250gb
Microsoft wireless desktop
Cosair 620W psu
Artic cooling freezer 7 pro
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R
GeIL 2x2gb packets
Intel core 2 duo E2180
Antec 900

Anyway i went round today and built it all, Then it turns on fans spin but there is no display to his moniter, Nothing what so ever. I tryed resetting BIOS taking ram out and putting it back in, taking the cpu out then putting it back in. I even took my cosair demonator ram round to see if his ram was broken. We tryed a diffrent graphics card aswell! I am out off ideas what this could be, Part off me thinks it could be a faulty motherboard... Tomorrow he is going to bring it round mine, Where i can take everything out and try and start it out off case.

If anybody could offer any suggestions that would be great! Oh and we have tryed a diffrent moniter it just don't seem to post what so ever. Can't even get into BIOS it's just blank!!

Thanks :), I am going to test everything on mine, I know the ram and graphics card work, I am quite sure it's a bust mobo then! DOA i guess then!
 
OK turns out I didn't plug in the 4-pin CPU power bit, but my cable doesn't quite stretch far enough from the PSU so I'll have to pop into OcUK tomorrow morning to pick up an extension. I'll let you know tomorrow if that solves it.
 
ah wicked! Ours was deffinatly plugged in! So it's not looking good thanks anyway
 
1. First, try just with PSU, Mobo, CPU, GFX, memory - If it posts, then you probably have power issues, if not, step 2:-

2. As above, but only one stick of memory, try all combinations of either single ram stick in each slot. If it posts, then you probably have mobo RAM compatibility issues, or a duff stick of RAM, or undervolted RAM. If not, step 3:-

3. As above, but no GPU. You should get a beep. If you do, the graphics card is knackered, if not step 4:-

4. PSU + mobo + CPU - you should get a beep. If you do, ram problems again, if not, step 5:-

5. As above, but outside the case. If you get a beep, then it was a a case short, if not it's RMA time for Motherboard/PSU/CPU in that order.

Thanks a lot for that write up, it will come useful, I have already tryed all the ram in my system and did a ram test and there 100% fine, I have also already done step one! I am going to take it out the case and try tomorrow and also test the graphics card in my machine, I know the HD and dvd burner work because we tested those in his old machine, So it's either PSU (I don't think so) shorting in case (possible but not sure) Or the mobo dead/faulty! I will keep you updated!
 
Hi, We just had a quick play. I have done as you said no luck! But i am fairly sure that the mobo is dead, This is because i can hear a high pitch noise which is unusal.. If any body can confirm this that would be great, We have tested everything but the cpu. But i think it's the mobo!

I don't get a high pitch noise when I turn mine on, but I don't recall getting any beeps either. I was a bit worried as on my old PC my PSU had a earthing bit to clip on to the case whereas my new one doesn't, and I also had to screw on brass standoffs onto the old case whereas the new case didn't have them.

I'm about to head off to OcUK for an extension cable, fingers crossed that's the only problem.
 
(sorry for the double post, bumping it back up again)

I've plugged in the extension cable but I still have no output from the graphics card, and now the CPU fan isn't spinning either.

Any suggestions? If I have to go back to OcUK this afternoon it'll be my 4th visit in 2 days!

Are you saying you screwed the motherboard directly to the case? If so, we may have found your problem :)
 
some cases have built in standoffs, lets hope he has them, easy way to find out, does the i/o panel line up?

Nope, it has standoffs already on them.

Well I took the Gigabyte board back to OcUK this afternoon and bought an Abit IP35 instead and now this one isn't even turning on. Although I'm hoping this time it must be a shorting problem - the light comes on the motherboard to let me know the power supply is turned on (therefore there must be electricity going through the board?) but when I turn on the PC nothing happens.

The Gigabyte board couldn't have been shorting as the PC and fans turned on. I think (hope) the Abit is shorting, I'm going up to Sheffield on Sunday so I'll test it outside the case then to make sure of it. The case (Antec P182) is giving me a few problems actually, my old P160 is a nicer case to build a PC in! (removable motherboard tray, PSU at the top etc)
 
Did you get yours working in the end? We RMA'ed it here!
