just coming to the end of my m-atx build in the new Colossus M case, without any hdd's installed I was able to run Ubuntu from a usb stick, however the moment I have either of my hard drives connected the fans spin for about half a second then the pc cuts off, hard drive is a brand new Seagate 1tb.

my second issue is I can't find where to plug the hdd indicator/light or get the lights to work, will be posting images on that once I fix the first issue.

Can you list the parts please.

For the HDD activity light there is usually a HDD front panel header cable that plugs into the motherboard in around the same place ast the power/reset cable.

The HDD activity should be the two circled in red.

thank you, that's the hdd indicator sorted, now just to figure out the cases light strip and the hdd issue.
