Hi all Just recently finished my new build (spec below) Im also running windows Vista x64 SP1 just to let you know. Thing is whilst playing crysis on 1600 Resulution 4x AA and all other settings on high (not maximum) ive only been getting about 40 fps and 25 FPS in certain places?

I dont think this sounds too good to be honest, i know for a fact that one of my cores on my 4870 X2 is running in 3D mode constantly which shouldnt realy effect anything. Not tried benchmarking yet but the game says it all for me realy?

Is this just a ATI driver issue or the game itself since my build is just not performing as expected?

Thanks

something definitely sounds wrong.. I know it's crazy but have you tried everything on very high?

If not, do that. If problems still persist:

Patch the game to latest update,
Install latest DX10
Clean out/uninstall Gfx drivers / Re-install latest Cat's.

Then, let us know how you get on :)

(I think there are known issues with crysis and 4870x2, but not sure).

Hi Yeah something does sound wrong. I have the latest catalyst drivers installed and also a fresh copy of windows vista was installed yestarday so there will be no other driver folders from the likes of nvidia ect. Direct x 10.1 is also installed as well unless if there is a later version il look for it

Where abouts did you hear about the problems with crysis and 4870 X2s?

Thanks

tell us the cores temps while running the game too could be helpful!

yes, definitely get core temp, and gpu-z. Too see if there are any temperatures at fault.

All over the forums there are reports of sli-capable/x-fire cards not working amazingly in crysis. Although, I believe it was fixed in a patch and other gfx card driver updates.

Another thing you could try is 3D Mark 06, let us know what results you get.

Is crysis the only game you are having problems with?

Crysis is not a very friendly ATI game. Its been proven.

I have 2x 4870x2's and barely saw a difference in crysis going from 1 to 2 cards, and I run 2560 res.

I can run it with 16x AA edge but it still runs the same with no AA for me.

Well im sorry but for what we pay we should expect performance! Not this, it realy isnt fair to be honest.

Here are my Screenshots of GPU-Z for both cores whilst in game paying crysis.

These are the temps in game when the fan speed is 40% not the default 28% that ATI set it too as i upped the fan speed.

Also crysis is the only game at the moment with these problems since no other games are installed I.E COD 4 ect. Crysis says it all for me really.

Thanks

try upping fan speed to 50% when playing crysis, if you can.

Only other thing I can think of is overclock your CPU (As crysis is optimised for core 2 duo, not quad).

2.8 GHz should be more than enough! its not the CPU thats at fault here its this GPU. Im serioulsly thinking of RMA on this.

This has to be another one of ATI's messups i just dont understand how im ment to put up with this?

Thanks

no... 3.6ghz is more than enough.

You could try downgrading to a 4870. They are looking good in crysis.

edit: tbh there are loads of games out there, try clear sky before you decide on what to do.

RMAing it?

You: "I want an RMA number for my 4870X2."
Techie: "Okay, what's the fault with it, sir?"
You: "Well, there's no fault, it's just slower than I expected in one game."
Techie: "Err..."

Some believe Crysis is badly coded, especially for Xfire. Others think it just needs loads of CPU power. Either way, your graphics card is performing as it's expected to. Can't you overclock your CPU? I'm assuming you haven't bought a £190 motherboard and premium RAM to run at stock.

I heard that crossfire doesn't work well in crysis, but there's a hack that you can download which resolves the issue somewhat. Seeing that when you really get down to it the X2 is just a better version of crossfire it makes sense, your really only getting the power of one of your cores atm.
Also overclock your cpu just a tad :) it'll help i noticed a big difference on my q6600 going from 2.4 to 3.4.

While its coding does leave a lot to be desired, it was coded in such a way that it actually benefits being run on nVidia cards as opposed to Ati. That's why you're seeing poor results with all Ati cards compared to nVidia, not just the 4870x2.. and yes, its a very CPU limited game also.

Hi guys thanks for your help! well i sure hope your all right anyways, i know theres a lot of people with the same problem. I guess il have to ive crysis a miss now though hope for other games to perform well. shame really.

Anyways CPU is overclocked to 3.4GHz now and RAM is running at 850MHz so its quite fast! Unfortunatly i think theres about a 5 FPS sec more in crysis. So i think this is definatly to do with Crysis and/or GPU Drivers.

Although since overlclocking ive noticed better performance in windows ect which is really good.
