they are both nforce4 chipset controlled boards for the 939 socket and would be very close in terms of performance in games at stock speeds. It's only if you start altering the clock speeds on the boards that they differ. ie you overclock the cpu and memory.

At standard speeds the gigabyte is good.

Hang on guys, with Crossfire you can mix cards can't you? You could get a slave card now (X1800XT) and then pair up with a X1900XT later, no?

Not X1800 with X1900

BUT a X1800XL WILL work with a X1800XT or a X1900XT-X with a X1900XT (whereas SLI needs identicle cards to guarantee to work).
