Hi all Im planning on upgrading soon. Since i have not upgraded for a while and my current setup is just out of date basicly lol.

Ive dicided to go for a gaming rig since i want to start playing the latest games again, and also be able play newer games such as BF2142.

Im going to be keeping some old components such as the HD ect since i cant afford to replace them.

Heres my old spec below

AMD athlon XP 3200+
Corsair XMS 3200 (DDR 400)
Radeon 9800 pro AGP GFX card
Asus A7N8X deluxe mobo
Sound blaster audigy 2 ZS
1 x maxtor SATA 160GB
1 x maxtor SATA 250GB
Netgear rangemax MIMO wireless NIC
Antec Trueblue 480 PSU

New spec is shown below

MB-131-AS Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe Crossfire (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-131-AS) 1
£84.95 £84.95
CP-126-AM AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA4200BVBOX) (CP-126-AM) 1
£109.95 £109.95
MY-079-CS Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 (MY-079-CS) 1
£129.95 £129.95
GX-112-SP Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-112-SP) 1
£178.95 £178.95
CA-038-TT Thermaltake VC3000SWA Armour Jr SuperMidi Tower - Silver (CA-038-TT) 1
£64.95 £64.95
Subtotal £568.75
VAT £99.54
Total £668.29

These are the main components that will be upgraded. But im decidng to keep both SATA (1.5GB) HD's and the sound card and wireless card. The rest will be new.

Ive also chosen crossfire since i can just add another identical card in the future.

Also can you recommed me a good PSU for this upgrade?, since at the moment im thinking of buying a TAGEN.

Does this new spec sound ok to you all?, if not please post your recommendations.

Cheers :)

Most people are buying the new Intel conroe chip where as you seem to be opting for the now out dated 939 X2 stuff which I believe the conroe is faster than?

If you could up the budget a bit more then this would be much better and will overclock very well- you should reach E6600 speeds fairly easily IIRC :)

Snap Could you go for the 1MB cache CPU's? (3800/4400)

Nope, the only S939 X2 CPUs with 1MB L2 cache are the 4400+ and 4800+, the 3800+ has 512kb ;)

Hi sounds good but im not looking to overclock. Why all of sudden is intel more recommended than AMD?. Im currently looking at the AM2's now and they look good.

Just going through different specs. The conroe chip looks interesting since ity performs great.

What you all think of this?

I wouldnt bother with the Super clocked 7900GT for the price you can get an X1900XT 512MB for £50 less which is better than the 7900GT and also im not sure how well the E6600 clocks on the P5B but i know it clocks quite well with the P5W DH :p

Agree with you there, x1900xt will be better and cheaper, if it were the other round i'd still point it out.... ;)

You'd be fine with a 500W psu.
