OK so i posted a while back about getting a new computer, someone reccoended the 6600 Intel to be, but ive been dooin some reaserch and think ide rather go for a Intel Core™2 Extreme QX6800, now these come at a price but ive seen an OEM vertion at £300 wich is within my cash limit, but because its an OEM theres no heatsink or fan, i dont mind spending up to £40 on one but can anyone reccommend a realllly good one thats quiet?

if you really set your mind on that CPU and you have got the cash then you will get a great CPU that's for sure. But to be honest, I wouldn't recommend it as it's basically a lot of money that imo is pretty much a waste. I'd get a Q6600 instead and overclock that and save some money! Save it up for your next rig

As Vir said, you could save a lot of money by overclocking a Q6600 to the same speeds. And even higher

ok if i got a Q6600 how easily could i overclock it to 3Ghz and what would i need?, ive never ventured in to overclocking, although ive wanted to for a while.

from what i've seen around here should be fairly easy.

make sure the mobo you get is one of the regularly mentioned ones so if you have any issues you know theres people around that will be able to help with any little tips that might be specific to the mobo.

Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard is the mobo i had in mind, anyone care to offer anything better ?

what sort of price are you getting it for, just to give people an idea of a budget.

would have thought the P35 abit IP35 or gigabyte DS3P boards would do the job.

The gigabyte DS3R boards are good clockers too. But I think the Asus striker extreme's are in a higher class than these boards anyway. I suppose if you've got the money for that Asus board, then there's no reason you shouldn't get it.

That's what I would get, can't be beat for vfm
