Hi,

I posted a thread a little while back about building a new rig, but work and life got in the way and I never got round to ordering it. Back then it was a 3770K system built in a Bitfenix Prodigy. But since then, I've kinda gone off that size case, and would rather go for standard midi-tower (maybe one that is noise reducing...)

I don't want to overclock. Emphasis is on stability and fairly quiet.

I was thinking of a GTX 670, but for my needs, that's a bit overkill, so thinking of dropping that down to a 660 to save some cash.

What I'm after...

Intel 3770K CPU (+ quiet, decent heatsink)
16GB DDR
256GB SSD
2-3GB HDD
GTX 660
Blu-ray drive (one that comes with actual playback software)
Midi-Tower
+ the other bits to make it a complete PC (PSU etc.)

Budget: £1000-£1100, around there. Under budget, obviously welcome :D What's my basket? Cheers!!

Yeah, I need everything. PSU included.

So it's worth going for Haswell over the 3770K now then? Are the Haswell mobos good? I heard there were small issues with the first round of Haswell mobos?

Not sure if you need the PSU but I included it anyway.

The SSD is faster than the M4. The 7870XT can be OC'd to match a 7950 (that's on par with a 670). Bluray drive is retail so should have software included. P280 case is sound dampened and has ample room for all sorts of coolers inc. large CLCs. (That Shinobi Core would needs fans added to it btw)

Quick question regarding the DDR. The mobo says it supports "1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules (1866/2133/2200/2400/2600/2800Mhz OC)". Does that mean I must overclock (CPU? Just the DDR?) to get the DDR to run at those speeds?

You enable the XMP profile in the BIOS and it auto configures the best settings for the RAM.

Cool, that sounds straightforward enough.

On that case, that's an interesting discount :D

"was £89.99 inc VAT
£99.95 inc VAT"

Yes I noticed that too. That could have been the price of the gun metal grey version they no longer stock, I can't recall now.

Case is a personal preference. As I said the Core Shinobi has no fans supplied, it also has no badge or grills. £65 is a lot of poppy just for a bare chassis with some foam stuck to it. There are alternatives of course depends what you like the look of.....

The Z77-D3HP isn't a true Xfire mobo so just stick with a 500Wish PSU

I like that BitFenix Ghost Silent Tower Case, so I'll go for that I think.

Not really into overclocking, so not sure I want to overclock the gfx card (I assume it voids the warranty too?). So not sure which card to go for bearing that in mind... I've tended to be an nVidia person... hmm...
