New runabout

Picked this up from a friend yesterday, something to tide us over until i can put my 406 back on the road (which is looking to be a while as it's too low for me to get into)

Even though it their little shoebox town car the build is lovely, doors make a nice "clump" when closing and i can't even hear the central locking (yes, the important details in a car!). Gearbox is nice and it's reminding me how much i miss auto boxes

Presenting "The Merc" 1.6 automatic

If it was the diesel i'd actually consider keeping it full stop.

Quite possibily the worst car our family ever owned, niggly electrical problems,horrible horrible ride and pretty rubbish inside for a Merc.

On a serious note, they can be had quite cheaply now, so arent a bad buy, just be prepared for silly faults and niggle, they werent the most reliable either. Is it the LWB model?

My Nan has one, around the same sort of age. It's madness as she does so few miles and running costs are ridiculous for what it is!

It's like the Daewoo Matiz of the Mercedes world

A friend of mine's Mum used to have one. The interior made me die a little bit inside. Seriously nasty (and I drive a Rover!).

But for £500, you can't complain. Hope it brings you many months of trouble-free motoring.

I remember being at a house party at 16 and some rich kid from the local private school was bragging about his friend coming down with "his" (his mums) brand new Mercedes, it was one of these, no one could understand why I was laughing so much. I remember it so well because I almost got my head kicked in moment later when I did try and explain it.

Ahh, this is where i'm safe. My reactions are slow enough that i'll just hit what ever is in the way and not try going around it.
