new sandy bridge build wont turn on no matter what...

ok guys glad to say refitting it worked :) but now my next problem :( it starts up, and after like 4 secs it turns itself off...... so what now lol

Memory in the correct slots, assuming your using 2 x 4 gb.

8 pin for CPU power connected, also try a CMOS reset.

Does it beep at all before it turns itself off again? (if you haven't plugged the speaker into the headers, it's best to do so)

If it does, have a look in your mobo manual, and there should be a section in there that will tell you what the beeps mean.

ok i managed to get it booting... problem was that when i plug anything in the cpu fan slot it does that... so i wont be doing that... but now for my next problem. it wont detect my harddrive :( when i put in my ssd it detects it, but when plugging in my samsung f3 with windows installed etc, (it worked and louded windows first time i connected it ) it just says in bios that there are no harddrives.. so what now? also i dont know if this should be happening but with the samsung f1, when its on its like a constant mechanical shift sound every 1.5 secs or so

help!!!

take all the front panel connectors out and use a screwdriver to trip it on touching both the pwr button pins together, are there any test led's on the board to confirm that power is getting to the board?

powers not a problem now... just getting it to recognize my hard drive... i plug the same sata cable into my ssd and it detects it, but then when i try my mechanical drive it just does nothing

The noise comming from your mechanical drive does not sound good.
Firstly try another power cable. A clicking can be a sign of a damaged drive which is easy to do if you moved it while it was spinning.
Another thing to try is just positionin the drive differently.... place it on its side... but only move it when power is disconnected and it has 10-20 seconds of spin down time.

If their is power going to your motherboard you should have little LED's light on your even if the system is off.

update : power problem is fixed, just the hard drive that isnt now.... another question.. if it is broken, how would i be able to delete all my personal info on there before i rma it?

That would be.... drill some holes right through it. If you want to RMA then its a big problem

But there is lots to try before u get to that stage. Do you still have your old machine, can you try it in that or any other machine or use an external SATA to USB connection?

nope back at uni now so no old machine :( strange, i plugged an extra fan into the psu and now when it gets to the main bios menu the hard drive just completely stops any sound and mechanical noises like its switched off

did research and apparently the hdd is suffering from the click of death, so my guess is its broken... now im still within warranty but how do i go about sending it and not worrying about my data?

If you can't access it then I assume the people you're sending it back to won't be able to either.

If it's a reputable company then I wouldn't worry. They will probably be to busy to worry about attempting to retrieve data from broken HDDs.

Big magnet is the best you are going to get.

Try searching for click of death freezer trick. If it works it might allow you to get some of your por.. er data off.
