I'm wondering how many users are you supporting with that lot, and what kinda apps (other than outlook/exchange + file-sharing obviously :) )?

I'm hoping its not the traditional OcUK overspecification :)

If it is we're going to find it's a file server for 3 people.

Sorry for the lack of answers, was away for a few days.

The server is going to support around 30-40 users in the office, and around 70 users remotely.

The office users with be using the server for file sharing, Outlook and SQL database access. The server will also store all our images (of which we have around 107Gb). Of the 30 office based users, around 15-20 of those will also have remote access for homeworking. They will have the full complement of published apps available to them via Citrix.

The remote users will initially only have access to Outlook via remote access & Citrix, but as bandwidth improves remotly we will look at rolling out shared apps (word, excel etc) along with file sharing and our SQL database.

Any more questions or comments, please dont hesitate to fire them my way :)

Interesting you've bought an older SonicWall Pro 2040 - how come you didn't go for the current NSA eg 2400 or 3500?

Think youve read my original post wrong Chris :)

We currently have a Sonicwall 2040 firewall, and are replacing it with a Sonicwall NSA 2400 + Sonicwall NSA 2400 HA.

So today the majority of the server kit arrived, on a pallet weighing 300kg! The Sonicwall & Celestix kit arrived a couple of days ago.

Not sure I want to play this game anymore, now that all the kit has arrived lol

That's a familiar sight lol

The worst bit is getting rid of all the rubbish at the end of it

Aye. I don't know if IBM are as bad as HP but it's no wonder you fill the bin when you get things like a single SATA cable in big cardboard box!

Thats a hell of a migration project to be doing all in one shot, Personally I'd have staggered it and staggered the purchases. I'm also not sure some of the upgrades are woth the cost and hastle but I guess you have your reasons.

Alex2001, the actually implementation of the project will be staggered :)

Then why spend the money which could be tucked away in the bank on kit that will spend months sat in the store room running down the warranty and going out of date? Sorry but it's one of my pet hates in the IT world.

Its not going to spend months sat in a store room running down the warranty, the Sonicwall's will be installed just before the licence agreements run out on the existing Sonicwall (next couple of weeks) and the Blade Center will be setup and primed for when we move Offices next month.

I can totally see your point though regarding warranties, dont get me wrong. But, I cant see that a couple of weeks/month tops, is going to do any harm at all.
