new skynet challenge

Today's lunchtime update :

Saturday, our peak, we were ahead by about 250k
Sunday that had been cut to 150k
Monday we held on by 15k, but a couple of hours later evga stomped us.
Yesterday they had a lead of 130k

Today the lead approaches 250k

There is just over 3 days to go. Both sides seem braced for the final push.

I get so frustrated with my poor internet connection, wu's waiting hours before retry and new ones not uploading to cpu sitting idle for too long.

I just hope some of the new or returning members stick around :D I will be for sure.

I'll stick around, I run it in the background (Folding and SkyNet, although Folding doesn't get as much action due to GPU being in use).

4670 + GTX780 but I won't run it when at work (off sick at moment so its on most of the day)
Tablet is running 2 cores and I only use it for Kindle now so its just sat there 24/7
Note 4 (4 cores) gets quite hot so I'm not entirely comfortable using it. I give it 10% of battery after a charge though.

A lot of the stuff I am running is temporarily and hurriedly "assimilated", and none of it was ever set up to run Boinc reliably. Normally the only cruncher I have 24/7 is the 4P AMD unit that I've been using for folding. That means I've got stuff going and didn't want to make it too difficult to return to it's normal state at the end of this challenge. Many machines should be tied to a server network so even if they rebooted they need a login before crunching. I know that CPU only boinc can be set to start as a windows service without login, but that was too much effort ;)

Your i5 is doing a lot more than the i3. It's just the i5 has a larger number of WUs waiting on somebody else to validate by returning the same thing.

Validation of WUs by another is a standard problem for us all, I've currently got some 733 queued  It is however the only way that BOINC can be certain that results aren't being affected by something weird on a computer. Overclocking can really do odd things if it isn't stable.

Ah yeah, I'm no stranger to confirmation lag as it's the same with crypto mining. How do I see how many WU are in my queue? I may see if I can get more juice out of the old gal.

Up to 44 cores now - Don't give up folks.. theres bound to be some spare cores behind the sofa somewhere :D

click that link i put above then hit
"tasks" for each pc, you can see whos got the other copy of the wu and if they are making you wait, or you them haha

Had a few hours of outage last night, overclock decided it wasn't stable half an hour after I went to bed
Have now 'improved' the overclock and gave it a slight bump in speed also. If stable I'll try to get up to 4.5GHz on the i7 tomorrow :)

I'm very impressed by the Be Quiet cooler though, if it weren't for the GPU folding I'd barely know the computer was on and it's keeping temps in check at 72-76ºC maximum despite a warm running HD280x in the case as well :)

I'm going to Push Boinc out to a couple of machines at work that are "Spares" and use them too try push us up the ranks, They're all 8core Xeons so 20 machines 160 Cores?

Hopefully should help abit!

ryan any extra power is good, but be careful with work environments that even if the machines are "spare" you have consent to make use of them. If nothing else machines running full tilt will consume electric.

I fear any efforts now will be a bit late to make any headway against Evga have a big head of steam and a good lead now. What is important is that we don't slacken off in the last couple of days of this challenge. If we could peg evga to within 500k that would be a good result?

It was a great fight to the end, EVGA just had too much in reserve, let's be honest with the amount of members who actual bother with DC on the forum our output was amazing.

Well done to all.

Well done to EVGA as well, we know you are watching ;)
