man I thought the currunt slim ps2 was small, the new slimmer model must be tiny, how on earth do they do it,

"If the already wafer-thin slimline PS2 isn't light enough for you, Sony's third iteration of the console will weigh just 720 grams - including the built in power supply (which is external on the current version).

The new console will cost 16,000 Yen, according to Reuters, which works out at around £66 in normal money."

"The new PS2 will reportedly cost $99 (£47) in the US, with a UK price tag expected around £75."

Probably to reduce manufacturing costs yet again and inturn making it cheaper for people to buy. It's a smart move since a lot of people are still buying them, more so then the PS3 (and maybe the 360)

I think the PS2 has a good bit of life in it yet

I agree but a lot of publishers/developers dont seem to care. There are quite a few Japanese PS2 games that I would give anything to have them localised in the US (since they dont seem to give a toss about Europe :p), but publishers dont care and think it would be a waste of time and as a result I have to miss out because of the language barrier.

Well if they are selling so many why not make it even cheaper to produce although being 30% more expensive here is another annoyance

lol when i first saw this i just couldnt understand it. Ive never had a slim ps2 but i saw one yesterday and its absolutely tiny!! i have no idea how there planing on making it smaller. Youd probably lose the dam thing down the back of the sofa o_0

I heard about this around a month ago, You may be able to get some decent deals on the old slim PS2 if places try to clear stock.

I remember last year there was a shop which was selling them for £25 which I was gutted I missed out on as its well worth that price new, would have been able to play FF7 & 8 then :( maybe I can find similar this year :D

I would like to see a comparision picture of both the slims next to each other as I know the old slim looks tiny compared to the orignal PS2.

I think Sony are trying to get the PS2 in competition with the Wii. There is even a Wiimote-like controller coming out for the PS2. I don't think it's actually Sony's idea, but I bet they are pretty happy with it.

If they are going to release the console AGAIN so they can squeeze another 5 years out of it, they should improve it a lot in both hardware and software. Maybe if they start more Wii kinda games with PSmotes and fun games then they have a chance. Perhaps you can sign into the PSNetwork thingy?

Personally they should work on the PS3 and PS2 games and improve textures, graphics etc

Microsoft should have done this with the XBOX1 as it's currently huge!!

There not changing the physical size of the Slimline ps2. It's going to be exactly the same aesthetic but lighter and with the power supply inbuilt.

If it aint broke dont fix it, the PS2 is a goldmine for Sony, they will keep selling it as much as they can and I don't blame them for one second.

The PS2 is a console that fills the needs of a huge percentage of gamers, you are just unlikely to find these gamers on this forum.

The reason? They're not enthusiasts so they're unlikely to be found on an enthusiasts forum, they're not bothered about graphics or having the latest game and they want more money for other exploits. I've got a friend who bought his first console since the megadrive 6 months ago, which was a slimline PS2, the games are plentiful and the costs are low compared to the new generation of consoles. It's also quite well supported, games like Okami and Final Fantasy XII being recent efforts that i have bought in the last 12 months that have been excellent. Also we are yet to get Odin Sphere here in the UK, i'm still hoping we will one day D:.
