Some new HD videos of Wipeout2048 & Uncharted,

http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/sony-ngp-soaks-up-the-pre-e3-glitz-in-official-demo-videos/

Surprised there hasn't been more activity in here what with the embargo lifting yesterday and hoards of screens, videos, interviews and opinions flying around the web.

The cross format functionality looks like its going to be quite popular with the ability to play wipeout 2048 with people on the PS3 in HD or in 3D. So one game might have 2 in 3D, 2 in HD and then 4 on the NGP.

Also announced yesterday from komani is a new feature called 'Transfarring', which will allow selected Komani PS3 titles to be able sync with the NGP/Vita and continue playing the same game on the move, more information here,

http://uk.psp.ign.com/articles/117/1172361p1.html,

"Transfarring", where console and portable versions of games can exchange save files to let gamers take their play session anywhere they want. Start the game on the big HD screen, hit "Transfarring" to move over your save, and continue the game on your PSP or NGP. This functionality is currently exclusive to PlayStation versions of games that carry the "Transfarring" logo."

What's interesting is that many of the new HD console remasters will be carrying the new "Tranfarring" logo which indicates that these games will be released on the NGP/Vita also.

I think Sony have all bases covered with this thing, the price will be the big deal breaker. Unlike the PSP, just about every genre of game will work on it, has just about every control method you can think of, has some pretty hard core games and the indy devs are on board for app store like games. Its also unsuprisingly going to be able to run all games that use the PS suite for Android so another avenue of games for owners.

I've had the feeling for a few weeks now that Sony have finally gotten their ducks in a row when it comes to the future of the brand. The NGP is apparently easy to code for, is powerful, has all the bells and whistles that consumers want, has all the control schemes that developers can use and already is going to boast quite a cool launch lineup.

Add to that that it will be able to play old PSP games that came from the store and its got a great start in life so long as they price it correctly. With them seemingly having learnt so many lessons already its hard to imagine them stuffing that up too badly.

I'm just uploading the rest of the screens that I could find, will post in here in a few.

I hope @ e3 we hear about more third-party support, little worried about that atm, Sony can't just support this on their own otherwise it'll end up on the same road as the PSP, I'm still extremely excited though.

There is no way 3rd parties wont develop for it. We already know COd is on the way and i'm sure there was a leak somewhere showing that Fifa would be on the PSP2 as well.

The ability for developers to make a game that hits both the PS3 and the NGP with the additional ability to play one save on both systems will be too good to ignore as long as the price is right to get the device into peoples hands.

If the games are as easy to port as they are making out then perhaps your right, I hope so anyway, I'm actually looking forward to playing some PSP games on the NGP, rumours are flying around that the NGP/Vita may actually up-res the games, we've been told that they are going to add some filtering options to the older PSP games and also tweaked controls to work with the extra stick which is great news for games like Resistance : Retribution.

Here's an extract from an interview with Shuhei Yoshida from SCE and he had this to say about PSP titles on NGP,

"GS: And as far as compatibility between legacy PSP titles, are all the legacy titles going to work on NGP?

SY: We are still going through the QA process, but the premise is, you know, the older PSP titles, those coming from the PSN store and the dedicated PSN titles, including the Minis, should work fine on NGP. But, because NGP has a larger screen, graphically the games will get some benefits.

And we are also adding some edge smoothing using filtering techniques. So consumers will have the choice to make the textures smoother. We'll also provide options to remap some of the controls onto the right analog stick. Some PSP games like Resistance Retribution and Metal Gear Peace Walker use the face buttons for camera control. This makes the games a bit challenging to use. But when you remap the buttons to the right analog stick you can have an easier time. Other games like Monster Hunter uses the directional pad as a camera control. So we will provide options for people to remap the direction of buttons to the right analog stick as well. We are working on the details of that."

That rumour is true. The NGP will be backwards compatible with PSP games, those bought from the PSN Store only, and will give the improvements which you already said.

NGP/Vita looks great but again what are Sony doing?? Just throwing pure power and good graphics good at us expect it to sell like hot cakes. They are not bringing anything new to the market which we hasn't seen before, unlike Nintendo did with the 3DS and showing 3D without glasses.

Might be another PSP situation where it adults buying their kids the 3DS for Christmas not the NGP/Vita. The price will make a big difference and looking at those screen etc, it aint going to come cheap.

In fairness in this instance Sony went to the developers and asked what they wanted to see in a new handheld. And brining 3D to the market in the 3DS hasn't really worked all that well for Nintendo as sales are not setting the world alight for whatever reason.

The NGP isn't using anything particularly incredible inside except for the screen. The CPU and GPU are simply evolutions of existing smartphone tech so are relatively cheap compared to a bespoke solution like the Cell was. The largest expense is going to be the screen but they obviously felt it was needed in the console. In a way it makes sense because it'll give more battery life than an LCD of similar size.

In addition the hardware has been designed to a budget set in mid 2008-2009. Considering the state of play in the world finances at the time it seems unlikely Sony would pull another PS3 style launch.

As I said before, from all the impressions and interviews with Sony people, this looks like the best thought out hardware launch they are going to have had to date. I'm really looking forward to what they have to say at e3 considering there has been such a blowout of info in the last few days.

Some videos showing gameplay on the screen as well as comments from the makes of the games. All available in 1080p save for the second wipeout one ' 720p

Uncharted Golden Abyss

Wipeout 2048

Sound Shapes

Love the viewing angles and how responsive the touch screen looks in the Sound Shapes video. Jonathan Mak looks like he's been playing with it for a while!

EDIT:

From Eurogamer
Hustle Kings, meanwhile, is a take on the PS3 pool game, and it features multiplayer support that allows participants to stagger their turns, allowing them to play multiple games with multiple opponents, and it will support cross-platform play with the PS3.

So thats Hustle Kings and Wipeout able to be played multiplayer across platforms that we know of so far. You have to assume things like Fifa will also be added too.

Also One of the Devs has said that they are going to impliment voice activated weapons in Wipeout.

Announced NGP games thus far. NOT ALL ARE LAUNCH GAMES!

I want one

Its hard not to I think. We'll find out this week about new games and 3rd party support but already its loking very compelling. I only got a PSP when the Go came out and while its a great device it was released at the wrong time because the market just isnt ready for DD only sadly. I'm looking forward to being able to play a few of the classic PSP games once they are re released on the store as well as the new stuff.

Also ALL games for the GNP will be available digitally while some will also be available as carts. We have to assume that means the top end titles like Uncharted will have both while things like Little Deviants will probably be Store only.

Plus it'll play all the Minis, PS1 classics, and PS Suite games.

Holy crapoli Uncharted looks good and looks to play really well (intuitive controls).

And totally optional apparently. Though the impressions I've read all said that while it's optional you'll probably use them anyway as they just work.

Sony's e3 is Monday so there is sure to be a lot more stuff to see then!

A lot of speculation (baseless) about a FFVII remaster being released on Vita. I know it's just wishful thinking but it would be amazing for me if it happened.

This may be the first proper handheld I own since a gameboy colour, can't wait to see it at E3!
