New Sony receivers

Did wonder when someone would start to go down this route. Opens up a lot more options for people who don't want to wire rear speakers or a subwoofer.

If you're buying a avr with 9.4.6 system it's likely wires won't really concern you. ;)

Excellent! It feels like an eternity since we heard anything from Sony on new AV Receivers. I thought they were going to bail.

Good idea mixing in their wireless speakers, could win over some people with that.

Aye indeed. Kind of feels like this is a modded Sony HT-A9 system as forces you to use the sub that's compatible with that system and the same ISH rears compatible with the soundbar. Would have been nicer if they made it 7.2.4 or 5.2.4, however I can see people that would definitely be interested in this.

Sub/subs: they only have to be the Sony versions if being run wirelessly. You can still hook up any wired subs you want - BK, SVS, Monoprice etc. There are twin wired sub outs on the rear panel.

It's good new that Sony are back in the game. This feels like where the DN1080 might have evolved to. The price jump is unwelcome of course. £450 to £899, but that's the reality of the market so it's not like Sony are alone here.

The Sonos integration is an interesting move. I think they'll pick up some business from that. Other features such as the wireless rears has been done by Denon/Marantz (Heos) and Yamaha (MusicCast) for a number of years now. Also, Dialogue Lift has been a Yamaha feature for over 10 years too. Pulling the TV sound and centre speaker together though might well appeal - particularly for those with the Sony TVs that use the screen as the speaker element. I wonder how they go about matching the tonality though?
