Upped the APU to an A8K, has a better IGP and is on par with an intel i3. SSD has a bit more storage than the EVO. Again it can all be tweaked to suit his needs should he feel it's overkill, I look forward to seeing what he posts next.

If the HTPC idea really appeals he might want to start looking into the XBMC software.

Only took an hour and a half.

Man I'm good....

Looking to click buy on that, removed the CD drive as not really used and can install OS via usb.

Just awaiting a check on stock for the case :) Thanks everyone.

Just to add, I have a Crucial M4 128Gb SSD that I can give to him as well, new and unused. Is it worth using this or sticking with the Samsung Evo 840 120 that I've been looking at for this build.

Yeah it's still good, I'll have it if he doesn't want it ;) Just remember to update it's firmware there was an issue with them after 5200 Hours which the firmware update fixed.

Bummer the Coolermaster case is OOS, you'll have to ask in Customer services for an ETA. The Bitfenix Prodigy has been mentioned but at £70 that's quite a lot of poppy and makes the ITX HTPC less appealing on that budget. There is a Case King version on pre-order for £60 but that doesn't help you much if you want the rig built ASAP

There is the white version, a little dearer.

I'd add a CPU cooler, the stock one is pretty rubbish.

If you want 8GB RAM, you can knock off £10-£15 or so with 1600MHz - it'll be the same performance unless you're gaming.

The memory change looks like a good shout, unless anyone else has any comments on it.

Would we get any real advantage with the aftermarket cooler?

The stock cooler will do the job, but it's noisy. I've got that cooler, it's absolutely silent at normal load and it fits in a small case.

Except putting the cooler on later will mean having to remove the board etc. Lots of hassle if you've built it all and finished it.
