I've been out of PC spec and building thing for a while now at uni (couldn't afford it) because looking made me upset and want a new one even more :)

As i've not been looking I'm not really up to date with the latest and best things I'm going intel this time round but is there really much difference between an i7 and was thinking of a C2D e8500 but not sure whether an i7 is worth it atm.

Looking at a antec 1200 case not sure of the PSU the bequiet range look ok but maybe you guys can recommend something else?

Motherboard and graphics card is the main area really as i have no clue with not keeping up to date about I'm a big fan of asus for the motherboard and my current graphics card is x800 Pro shows how old my current pc is. So whats good in graphics card department i was thinking GTX285 but who makes decent graphic cards now EVGA? BFG?

Budget around 1000-1500, Don't need keyboard, mouse. Maybe just a monitor

Thanks a lot guys

1000-1500 is i7 money, if you want to build something to last, it'd be foolish not to buy i7.
What do you use your computer for?

Going to be a gaming PC and to catch up on a lot i've missed such as crysis.

Other point is lots of memory to run multiple VMware and lots of hard drive space at the beginning I should only need a 1tb HDD but will upgrade as time goes on thats why I'm going for the 1200 case

Sorry bumping my own thread this is what i've got already

you dont need to buy cables or screws, theyll all be provided by mobo and case. Your spec looks good, couple areas you might be able to save money, do you need the deluxe version of the mobo? and do you need vista ultimate? or will premium do? If you need both then fair enough just thought Id put the option there

It looks fine as said apart from the fact you dont need the screws and cables and could drop down to vista home premium (I would spend as little as poss on OS with windows 7 just round the corner). If it was me the only other change I would make is to get 1600mhz RAM just to up your performance a wee bit.

Drop the screws and cables and add a 320gb f1 drive for your OS and programmes. Was there a specific reason for wanting the deluxe version of that board? You'd probably get the same overclocking results for a lower spec version, as your cooling (air) will be the limiting factor anyway)
The graphics card that you chose is out of stock at OcUK, personally I'd just go for the OC2, it'll probably clock to the OCX speeds and beyond, they're so similar in price, though, that if you're buying elsewhere, you may as well go for the OCX, as it's guaranteed to run at those speeds. I don't know how high these cards normally clock.

The only reason I'm going for the Deluxe version is that I need esata as i run lots of multiple vmware operating systems on various external hard drives for work. Need quick copy/access speeds and hopefully esata will provide that.

It isn't listed on the normal version unless i'm mistaken?

Heres latest spec after peoples advice. The memory good? and also any trouble with vista business and these setup as I found out i can get that for free via MSDN then i'll purchase windows 7. I know some stuff isn't in stock but i'll wait for it to come in

Looks good to me. Almost identical to mine, but I'm getting a 260.
