New SPECS on M25 anti-clockwise Jct 26/27

Ah dammit :( That means mega delays...soddit

the problem is, 1 lane will not make ANY difference at all simply because the middle lane morons will just move over a lane, and lane 1 will get used even less than it is now (which is almost always empty). What they need to do is upgrade the A130 and A120 to motorway standards, then theres two routes around london to up north. As it is now, when the M25 is shut due to accidents, theres no where to go. I recently drove home from oulton park up near manchester and i spent HALF my time driving down (well sitting in stop start traffic) to the A406 and around to Romford due to the M25 being shut. Thats absolutely stupid... we need more motorways, not more lanes on the current ones. :(

4-6PM during the week, you barely notice the lower limit at all, but at 12-1am its a right pain, esp when youve gone down to 40mph and you can see something catching you in the rear view mirror at big speed..

yup, seening as id only just got a SP30 i was following those limits as if id die if i went 1mph over. However everyone else was still bombing through ar 60+. Rather scary, but now i know how it felt to everyone else when i was overtaking them at 100 :o

Because Southerners suck, the North is better. :D

It's not southerners, it's just those in the south east / london.

Come to Wales we know how to make efficient use of road space which is why the M4 flows really well even at peak times, at least until the new SPECS cameras go up as no-one is taking any notice of the new 50 limit.

I think the M4 and the sole ring road around one of the largest cities on the face of the planet are slightly different!

Doesnt matter how big the city, sitting on the middle lane, tailgating and not paying attention always makes you a tool.

totally totally true

the south east, in terms of driving ability, is the IQ void of the entire country. the number of morons you see crashing on a friday afternoon on the M25 is a joke, morons tailgating, morons not able to understand which lane youre meant to drive in.

i work with morons who are learning to drive, one had a question about motorways, i quizzed them a little to see how stupid they were and according to them everyone just drives in the middle lane, his reason... "because my mum does"

i suspect his mum is also his sister

Of course it does make a difference. This is why LA freeways are worse than those out in the deserts, which is the same reason the M25 is worse than the M4.

Almost every major population centre in the world suffers this. It's not a coincidence!

not true. ive driven on many motorways though mainland europe, into and around cities, they have been perfectly able to drive in the proper lanes. its just a south east england thing and youre so used to it you think its normal

it is true - the m25 does seem to be a total mental blind spot for most drivers - the fact that there are 4 lanes on most of the bit i drive generally means that no one uses the inside lane and instead cruses (below the posted limit) in the other 3 lanes - tards :(

Having said that the rest of the roads i drive regularly in the south tend to be pretty good for lane discipline & general driving quality...

edit: the only place i've found thats worse is the Fens - they are proper nuts up there, no driving ability + very long straight flat roads and massive storm ditches right by the road side leads to an insane amount of cars leaving the road :D

That's not that relevant. You've not taken in to account capacity versus volume of traffic, relative to public transport facilities.

I'm sure the people living outside those cities think it's busy and people drive crap.

yay, my new commute!

how can they possible want to widen this stretch *now*.... the road works by the M40 are unbearable - I spent about 10 hours sitting in traffic over the weekend to/from Goodwood and then some more on the way to/from RWS!

Adding this section of roadworks in at the same time... are they mad! :(

Cardiff, Newport and Swansea aren't exactly small and the M4 serves all of them, not to mention the huge numbers of Welsh who commute to England every day because there's not enough work here.

It gets pretty damn congested but people here know how to drive and how to use the road properly also the people here have no tolerance for arrogant cocks who try to undertake when there's just a small gap in the L1 trucks. If you do that everyone who saw it will bunch up and leave you stuck there and finally getting out about 20 cars behind. Petty? Maybe, but it discourages such behaviour and the road continues to flow well.

On the M25 people who try that get to just barge out in front of someone causing a "red wave" as one car is forced to slow down and then everyone behind blindly applies their brakes even if they don't need to.

I'm surprised they don't want to build an M25 toll yet. I know I'd pay good money for a road that just joined up all the motorways that hit the M25 with none of the local roads included (except the A12)

M25 need to be expanded to 6 lanes each way imo :D

Nah, they just need some decent enforcement of driving standards, if they could pull ever everyone who drove like a **** on the M25 and give them 3 points every time they drove like a **** then the congestion problem would be sorted within 3 months and you could narrow the road down to 2 lanes.

They'd need to massively upgrade the tube though.

Main problem with the M25 is that bloody bridge toll, it must've paid for the bridge 100x over by now so why is it still there? I live right by J29 and the traffic reguarly queues up way back past that up to 28/27 because of the tolls.

The mersey tunnel tolls are worse for that, the original deal is that the tolls would go away when the tunnels were paid for, the original tunnel was built in the 30s or something and they keep diverting the toll money into other projects rather than paying it off so that they can continue to pay the tolls.

since the design of the dartford tunnel (both the tunnel construction and the toll booths) is the same as the mersey tunnel, I wonder if it got the same deal?

Manchester is the same
Birmingham is the same
Leeds is the same
cardiff is the same
Bristol is the same
etc etc etc

every sodding road Ive been on is the same. Quieter roads its less of a problem but you still sometimes come across a moron just sitting in the 2nd/3rd lane for no reason what so ever. The less traffic, the less likely you are to find the problem, that's just simple percentages, that's why the M25/M1 suffer it more because they carrying a hell of a lot more than the M4 does through Cardiff/Newport area.

don't tar London/SE with this brush, its a UK wide thing, we basically suck at driving. IF you see the same thing in France, a middle lane moron and it will often be a British car..... People say its a lack of Motorway training on our driving lessons but Dual Carriageway driving is part of the test, so how is a motorway any different really??? Same rules apply.

but Jake, if the govenment remove the tolls the traffic will be worse... or thats what there report says... Sigh...

errm in one aspect your saying the M25 sucks due to middle lane morons, then you go on to say "arrogant ****s who try to undertake..." errm if they are able to undertake you, you are ALSO a middle lane moron if im honest. Bunching up and blocking someone in lane 1 is exactly why people dont bother going into lane 1 in the first place, because they are scared they will get stuck there, while you lot are arrogant ****s blocking them.......

Some parts of the UK are worse than others, some parts tend towards different kinds of stupid driving than others.

Middle Lane Morons are definitely a bigger problem in the South East, probably because you guys have so many roads where the left lane randomly peels off to somewhere completely different and no bugger will let you into the middle lane if you find yourself stuck in the left lane rapidly approaching an exit. The North Circular is particularly bad for this and I can't really blame anyone for staying in the middle lane on that road.

Londerners also seem to be crap at driving on unlit roads too, either not using their full beams at all and then driving at 40 because they can't see (and you can't see to overtake them) or driving with full beams on and leaving them on even when there is oncoming traffic.

Oh yes...I can see how letting everyone go rather than stopping every single car/truck/bike/van will increase traffic.

Morons.

yup. they should try it for a week and see all the traffic disapear... Yes, the road is over used but giving it a roadblock really doesnt help, but then TFL was looking into making the NEW A13 into only 2 lanes again because it was too fast, and flowed to well...
