New spore Screenshots

I never expected it to be bloody and gory, I just wish it would, I didn't expect it to be this ''cheerful'' though, when I first read about it being made, when there were no pics yet etc, I thought it'd be the great next strategy game, but now I just don't know and I highly doubt I'll like it.

Spore has been so hyped the last few years that it runs the risk of dissapointing a lot of people. Why can't game devs just keep their big mouth shut til a few months before a game is released?

Still, it could turn out to be quite fun. I'm certainly keeping an eye on it.

Here's 2 newish video's: video 1 video 2.

1 is the creature editor and Sporepedia.
2 is demoing the space part of the game and some Q&A at NASA.

I would imagine that is going to be pretty similar to the final product.

I remember watching the first hour long GDC video in 2005 and though it's been polished and "dumbed down" I don't think it's changed that much from the original concept.

I'm still definitely going to get this when is out.

Looks like a breath of fresh air - although it would be interesting to see what it would be like if it was a 'realistic' sim - rather than the cartoony aspect it has now. But we'll see. When it's projected release date?

September 5th in Europe.

I do not care about procedural generation, I care about strategy and tactics, not about creating characters and how they look.

what's the whole point of you posting here then?

Its like going into the ut3 thread and saying all shooters are pointless and you don't care about aiming, you want realistic and detailed choices of furry dice for your scorpion.

Civ

^^ which Civ is that, gotta love 2d graphics, still looking good.

I thought this would be a strategy game...

The only reason I said my hopes aren't high is because I know how much potential it has, however it would be foolish to presume that it's going to deliver everything it's promised in a flawless manner.

Having high hopes lays a great foundation for bucket loads of disappointment.

It's an EA game. It sucks by default, unless proven otherwise.

It is...with a twist. Much like TF2 is a FPS. Same with Legoland or rollercoaster tycoon... they are both strategy/simulation.

Spore might not tickle your sweet spot... but there is lots of potential for it to be a very very good game, despite it looking "childish". I am sure that Civ is a very very good game... but it looks like a board game and is still stuck in last centuries graphics in comparison to Crysis.... which arguably IS trying to be realistic.

The problem with looking realistic, is the power that is required.... this narrows the market audience down considerably.

The other problem is that it will look VERY outdated within a year or so, unlike a cartoony game, which doesn't show it's age.

Gameplay > Graphics.

This is why people play CSS 1.6 over Crysis. Because it generally is a more addictive and better rounded game.

Again, I will defend this game and stand by my current opinion. This game has proved otherwise.... way before it was bought out by Maxis and EA games. The game has a great creator and team behind it with some groundbreaking ideas and scope for a game.

However, I agree that since EA have stuck their size 16 shoes in, the game could potentially be watered down somewhat and unfortunately rushed..

It will be a good game, but it could have been a GREAT game :( we shall see

I like Rollercoaster tycoon :p.
They should make a ''spore hardcore edition'' :D.

Perhaps, perhaps I spoke too soon, I was a bit mad coz of disappointement...
I just don't know what to think of this game.

Not neccesarely, it doesn't need to have the textures etc of Crysis, I just want it to, erm be realistic in a way, I dunno, just that it doesn't look fake.
Although it's not even neccesary, TF2 looks nice imo even though it loosk cartoony.
I dunno what it is but something from those pics really disappoints me.

Not neccesarely, farcry looks superb and can even be played on intregrated gfx on medium and runs & looks superbly on old specs ( 30 fps on an intregrated geforce 7150 on med settings).

Gameplay > Graphics.
Yes, but gfx make part of the gameplay.

Crysis is boring indeed, I duno but I even prefer Farcry. Somehow plays nicer.

But the game isn't out yet, it hasn't proved anything yet imo, time will tell...

Awesome gameplay is always hampered when coupled with poor graphics, and awesome graphics is always crippled when coupled with shoddy gameplay.

For those who are all x > x - in reality, they need to compliment eachother, not beat the other.
