I'm at work and my new Corsair P128 Performance SSD has arrived along with an ocuker bracket to mount it into my 3.5 inch bay. Unfortunately I can't play with it until I get home from work :(

It is this one:

Sorry guys, just wanted somewhere to show it off. :p

I will update this thread when I've had a chance to see how well it runs.

nice drive i have one, tip when you set it up do a fresh install and only do a quick format not a full format.

use windows 7 as it sets the drive up properly.

when windows 7 is fully released there bringing an update out to speed ssd drives up allot there will be a firmware update out for this drive so we can upgrrade it.

btw if your mounting it inside your case nake a note of all the numbers etc on the sticker on the drive for when you update it ( saves taking pc apart etc to get it later on)

If the details needed are anything like those needed for the vertex, then you'll be able to get them from within device manager

the P128 drives have self healing on them tips for samsung based SSDs (my Corsair S128 has not degraded yet so this info most likely applies to all Samsung based SSDs)

never Full format as it noob the drives performance permanently until you have done an HDDerase to reset the drive back to when you got it, Full format can only be done from Disk manager (default is Full format), from command line format, or XP when at the blue screen. when installing from DVD Windows 7 and vista the only option when installing is quick format (when you press format its quick format)

keep 15% free (30-20gb free) so the self healing works (does not need trim tool like vertex based SSDs)

avoided running programs that do Full Disk Write benchmarks or CCleaner Free space Wipe (basically the same as full format or filling the drive to the point it has no free space and you have to use HDDerase to reset the SSD)

(Edit above info seems to apply if you have up to date Firmware for Indilinx based barefoot SSDs {1.31} so no need to use TRIM tool any more Unless you Force the SSD into an degraded state)

http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60198 (its on the New SSDs but no 1.31 FW update on there site at the time of posting so currant Indilinx owners are still on 1.30 so need to use TRIM tool)

A new feature - Self Healing

The new tested P128 series drive, and drives shipping to retailers come with the latest firmware and that includes a nice new feature: a ‘self-healing’ function.

In layman wording the firmware detects blocks that contain invalid data (data that has been ‘deleted’ by the file system, but has yet to be physically erased/overwritten with new/valid data) and erases them to ensure future file operations are performed at maximum speed.

The function works automatically after a normal power off/cold boot and the user simply needs to leave the system idle for up to 1 hour (the time varies depending on the condition of the drive), during which time the SSD will ‘heal’ itself.

The function only works for NTFS-based file systems, and there must be at least 15% free space on the drive for it work too.

I've set it up with Windows 7RC running now. Perfromance is pretty nippy, the real noticeable bits are the boot time (everything in taskbar loads up pretty quickly, inc steam) and the fact that closing games is instant (ie css and l4d). Benchmarking using HDD tune gave me 189mb/s max read speed and 170 mb/s average. Not bad :)

I just cancel my SSD's today at overclockers this morning. Because I rather wait for the best SSD come out end of this year fastest than the one I did pre-order.

I took a drive upto OcUK yesterday and bought a G.Skill Falcon 128GB SSD myself, very impressed so far, got Windows 7 64 rc on it at the moment, absolutely flies, incredibly responsive. And silent, no more grinding, since I'm downsizing my computers into much smaller cases this helps a lot too, another reason I bought it even. I'm sick of big noisy power hungry heaters.
