I've just got a new ssd drive crucial BX500 ,I installed it OK. I set up my bios to boot from cd to install windows10 on the new drive, the problem is the disk starts the process, just for a few seconds ,then s.creen goes black and I get no further.I have read that a new ssd needs to be , formatted, initialised, ? This is my first ssd I thought it was just the same as I've drive install. Could anyone point me in the right approach here.I would appreciate any help.

If it needs to be reformatted you can do so during the windows installation prep.

You say that it starts the process and then goes blank suggests that it's not able to read the windows iso from disk. Can you still hear/feel the disk spinning in the drive?

Alternatively I'd suggest just creating a bootable flash drive with the install files on it.

Thanks, the cd drive with windows 10 on it seems just lock up after a few seconds as I said ,then a black screen saying no bootable drive.I thought of using a USB flash drive, but does that mean ,I have to buy another copy of Windows as my original is on dvd.Ive also looked at cloning the ide drive to my new sdd ,it just seems a bit of bother just to reinstall Windows. I'm. Just getting a bit old now for pc upgrades etc. Cheers

You don't need to buy another copy of Windows. If you have another working PC you can download a new version either to DVD or to USB stick using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool.

A thought - is what you're using really a CD drive or a DVD drive? It needs to be a DVD drive.
