I have had a 40gb intel SSD as my primary HD for ages, i have been having issues with space, so my big plan was to buy a 128g Crucial M4, and install this as my Primary with my OS on it, etc.

So, i got the M4, cloned my intel on to it, installed my crucial, now for the important bit. i took the sata lead out my intel and plugged it into my M4 and plugged the intel into sata port 5 on my board. (Mobo is an Asus P6X58D-E) thinking it would just detect my crucial as the primary drive seeing as i had cloned it. It sounded simple, but these things never are for me :(

When i booted up it just saw the new M4 as the H drive and continued to see the intel as the primary C drive.

I imagine it is much more complicated than that, please tell me there is something simple i have missed. I had a look around in the BIOS but didnt want to mess around with it in case i screwed it up.

Please advise

thanks in advance

tried both these suggestions, failed to boot on both occasions, stating no physical drive, insert a copy of windows, etc, etc
Have you a blow by blow on how to prioritise hdd boot priority just in case i did it wrong?

You are genius sir, this worked like a dream, something about missing boot record or whatever!

Dont think i have ever had a problem that OC forums could not solve, if theres anything i can ever do for you..........

cheers mate

Quickest way is to unplug the mechanical hdd, just pull out the power connector to it,then see if m4 boots up,if not pop in BIOS and set boot device as your dvd drive, put in windows disk and do a start up repair, then set boot device as ssd and see if that works

It'll be under SATA or hdd priority in the BIOS just put it at the top of the list,save/exit
