NEW STEAM DEALS!!!!

Bum deal.

But it sounds like you can make one more purchase.
If that fails, youll be locked again.

If it succeds, though, you'll be able to buy something else. And the more successful purchases you make without failing any, the more leeway the system will give you when you do eventually have a failure or two.

Nope, I just bought mass effect and when I try to purchase something else it won't let me again. FUUUUUUUUUU STEAM!!!!!!!!

Er... why exactly haven't you contacted support about it? Either your hiding something and the block is legit or somethings glitched or someones having a laugh.

just bought doom 3 and ressurection of evil for £5.79 =] oh, and also mass effect for £3.25 :D plus several over the last weeks! damn you steam for such amazing prices >< cant resist!

sounds like your bank is blocking it as a fraudulent transaction and steam have decided you've nicked someone card or something.

that or you're putting the details in wrong.

Well I managed to finally finish downloading Mass Effect (was downloading at about 300KB/s to 600KB/s), and so far I have only played for about an hour and already run into a problem that has annoyed me twice. I have unlocked 2 doors that I have found so far, both times one of my squad has got stuck behind the NPCs and it took me a while to notice I only had 1 of my squad with me. I had to try and nudge my squad member away from the NPCs (which at times put my other squad member in the bad position).

So far the graphics and story that I have played through so far make up for that, but If i have to keep monitoring my squad for being stuck and spending time fixing it, I can easily see myself giving up on the game just because of that.

I also decided to buy devil may cry 4, now that I have finished gaming for the night I set that to download too, currently going at a nice 2.2MB/s :D. I wont be playing it for a while though, I still have 1 more campaign in CoH:ToV to finish and Mass Effect.

Well, if it was an error on my half, I don't know wtf I did wrong .

If everything else is ruled out then maybe someone else is trying to use your card, or your account. Maybe there's a legit reason as to why it's blocked.

I remember when Day of Defeat came out, my card (along with thousands of other peoples) got blocked due to Steams post code system. Iirc, it was that Steam was set up to have our UK post codes without a space in them, and of course we UK people put a space in the postcode which looked to Steam like it was a dodgy purchase attempt which resulted in the cards being blocked.

They sorted it out eventually but it just goes to show that Steam can make a mistake or two and you can't automatically assume user error.

I'm no expert but as I understand it lots of tiny transactions, or transactions that don't meet your normal spending habits can flag up warning signs at the bank. If they put a stop on your card and you try and use it on Steam it'll leave Steam out of pocket, hence the account block.

Rightly, my bank spotted several small purchases on my card (mobile phone top-ups) and blocked them after someone had gotten a hold of my card details.

At least phone your bank and rule it out as an issue.

Steam have put a lock on my account, not my bank. That's why they let me purchase one extra item. As far as I'm concerned, I've done nothing wrong and steam have ****ed up.

This is the reason they've given me:

"Thank you for contacting Steam Support. I have removed the lock on your account; you will be able to make one more purchase. Your account is currently on an alert status due to the excessive failed purchase attempts. Any unsuccessful purchase attempts will cause your account to be locked again. Your account will automatically be removed from the alert list after a while, each time you make a new purchase it will extend the alert period."

No one has my account details!!! Or do they??? (heavily doubt it).

Also I didn't input the data incorrectly, as I use the save my payment details feature. It was working fine before with those same details :(.

They've locked your account due to 'excessive failed purchase attempts'

Now either someone else has your steam details and is attempting to buy stuff (contact steam to go through these failed purchases)

Or your bank is flagging the transactions as fraudulent and stopping them (contacting your bank will tell you whether this is the case)

How hard is that to understand?

*Bangs head against wall*

If you're reusing the same details that have worked previously and Steam are saying you're making a failed purchase what does that mean? Either Steam is broken (not out of the question) or your bank is declining the transactions. How difficult is that to understand?

can mass effect be played with a 360 pad or will i still need mouse or keyboard inputs ?
i wouldnt mind sitting infront of the tv and playing something like this with a wireless pad even though i suck really bad at using it.

used to get that every now and then when people took out contracts...even though the phone was free there was a 2.50 delivery charge and people would be fuming when their bank wouldnt allow the transaction

I don't know, but the PC interface has too many buttons to map to a controller, they changed it a fair bit from the Xbox 360 version.

He can see all failed purchases by logging into his Steam account.
