Right now i have two drobo's (4 bay with Firewire connecting them) to my Mac Mini. Overall i have been quite happy using Drobo, its protected me from a drive failure and allowed me to go from just 3TB to begin with to 16TB using an assortment of drives along the way. So right now i have populated my bays with 2TB disks and i now have come to the stage where i am running out of space! Its also quite slow for transfer speeds but still performs well for what i use it for which is streaming to plex.

Now my Mini has thunderbolt and i would really like to get using that unused port but there does not seem to be many storage devices out there! I would be looking for a 8 bay device (Drobo pro with thunderbolt please)

Anyone got any idea's? or know of any upcoming things to come?

When will the avrage consumer PC start using this port? i can only imagine until there is a wider audience will products start coming to the market.

Hey mate, I think if you can hang on Drobo will release something with TB on it, they have said they are looking to integrate it but when exactly isn't certain from what I have heard.

From my perspective the problem you have at the moment is I'm guessing you want to use the HDDs you currently have, and understandably so! However there isn't anything that I would consider reliable in terms of TB enclosure yet, working for a Broadcast video reseller people would be going crazy for something like that if we had it in stock.

Anything TB related that is out at the moment is already populated with drives, like the Lacie little disks or the Peagus boxes, which do go up to 12TB but the price is pretty steep at around £1800.

If you wanted a smaller amount of expansion for now I'd advise you go for one of the smaller Pegasus boxes, which still aren't the cheapest in the world but will get you more space and the opportunity to use the connection. Also if you then get some kind of enclosure down the line you can daisy chain the TB devices together without worrying about taking up extra ports.
