Given that nearly every CT type thread gets derided by a few naysayers/debunkers, is there any chance that a sub forum could be started so that anyone who wants to dicuss these subjects could do so?

As with many other things, there is much bull/misinfo/hearsay being promoted around many of the subjects and it would be good to try to sort myth and speculation from from the more credible without the derision and insults.

I know that there are a lot sites devoted to these things but many are a bit too radical for the majority of our forumites; I just thought that it would be nice to be able to talk about this stuff in a more civilised way.

I'm not concerned if the general consensus is against this proposal but I do suspect that many members don't post in GD for fear of getting jumped on by the people who have opposing ideas.

surely the "naysayers/debunkers" opinions are at least as valid so to create something to try and exclude them would not be fair

i think you will get the same problems even if it has its on sub category. there will always be people that like to argue. keeping everything in GD means a broader range of people will see it, making the threads better.

*disclaimer - unless i missed the point

Try speakers corner, it's for serious discussion of newsworthy topics. Sounds like what you are looking for.

A forum that only supports the OPs view isn't going to happen though.

I would say the "naysayers/debunkers" have just as much right to give their opinion. That is what a debate/discussion is.

The derision is warranted when your arguments just don't stack up to rational scrutiny.

A few? You're kidding, right? You paint yourself as this open to all possibilities, let's consider all the options kind of guy but that's just not the case. Even a superficial skim of your threads regarding CT topics shows exactly which side of the fence you sit on and whilst that's fine and there's nothing wrong with it per se, it's slightly deceitful to pretend impartiality when it's not applicable in your case.

Your idea is a terrible one. If you want CT stuff then go to abovetopsecret or any of the other dedicated sites. The last thing these forums need is a subforum devoted to this utter nonsense and the loons it attracts really aren't wanted here.

e : have 1 star.

If you want a serious debate then Speakers Corner as suggested is your best option, however when posting there it's worth being aware that the standards of posting required are also likely to be a bit higher than would be accepted in GD so being prepared to support your position with evidence is, at the least, good form if it is not actually an expectation.

You can't handle the truth, so you want them moving to a separate forum, everyone can still visit. Leaving you bunch of CTs alone is a scary thought.

This is so delicately weighted, so precisely formed, that I'm actually in awe. Splendid stuff.

Also, I've just realised that the OP is the guy who thought that Ayn Rand had some good ideas (but hadn't read any of her work, of course).

*sigh*

Yeah, surely OC isnt the correct place to be discussing such things, theres gotta be more suitable forums for such discourse. Surely OC wouldnt have the number of people with knowledge on such subject so you'd get very little in the way of feedback anyway?
