New sub forum for so called CT (Alternative theory) discussions?

if you want a forum where everyone will agree with the drivel you spout then please look in the bathroom, where you will find a mirror.

Making a request for a sub forum where people can have rational discussions about CT's is reasonable in itself but after reading these forums for a day or two I don't think this is the best place to make that request :)

If that is what the OP really wants then we already have SC, however I think what the OP really wants is a place to discuss CTs where people won't respond to them with skepticism and ask for things like logic and evidence. :D

Yeah I got the impression that's what he wanted too, i was trying to politely suggest to him he's probably barking up the wrong tree.

As I explained above, I wanted no such thing ...

I used to enjoy reading some of the posts made by some obviously well educated, intellectual and articulate people here; tolerance and reasonable manners seem to have all but disappeared in any thread that isn't everyday pap for the masses.

SC would turn into the same thing as GD for these things and maybe even a dedicated sub forum too but thought that I'd ask anyway.

But as I said earlier ... point proven by all the vitriol and snide remarks.

I know that it's just the internet but I really am disappointed in the arrogant **** replies.

:(

people are expressing their views, which they are entitled to.
this is GD, no one really takes anything too seriously here from what i have seen.
if you want a proper debate/discussion on these matters, then a dedicated forum on a website on this topic for this would be best. not a sub forum on a computer site, which will inevitably end up with people spilling over from GD to have a browse and add their opinions.

It's always a pointless debate as there is never anything credible to research.

It's either one guys word, or a bunch of articles blatantly twisting the facts to suit a preconception - nothing has any sort of peer review either.

It's just a matter of "Do you believe x happened?", and thus a bit pointless trying to argue the point with those that don't.

Things like NISt reports, photo graphic evidence. Building regs and the like.

Even moon landings that don't have things like NiSt, still have scientific papers on specific parts like radiation in Van Allen belt. Reflective properties of regolith etc.

I feel your pain mate but if you're looking for a particular type of discussion you'd probably be better off looking for forums that already have that topic and also the tone you like rather than try and create one in a already established forum.

You also might want to rethink your stance on discussing these things, you should invite naysayers and skeptics because they bring valid opinions to the table. The pursuit of knowledge should be about being correct, not winning arguments and there is a difference between the two.

sorry, ...not sure of point

To paraphrase:

I know I would be made to quite rightly look like a fool if I tried to make a thread to discuss the subject in the Speakers Corner, therefore I will make an attention seeking thread in GD to prove my point to myself that I am much better than all the other posters in this forum, because I am enlightened.

That there is loads of peer reviewed papers and scientific reports to show points and disported loads of CT points. Or vice versa (but that's not likely).
Things like astronautics couldn't survive through the Van Allen belt, can be debunked using scientific and peer reviewed reserch.

Ah,thanks,
I was only thinking of the "look, this web page supports my view" sort of debate, when the web page was actually written by just another CT'ist

if its not on wiki it didnt happen :p

well thats how a lot of my friends see things. i like to feel i am more open minded and do enjoy other peoples point of view. but, i think GD needs to be taken tongue in cheek 99% of the time, as, like most peope said, SC is where the serious stuff goes on. that place scares me so i dont enter it.

Debunking a wild theory adds nothing to the topic? So what you're really after is an uninterrupted circle jerk of misinformation, hyperbole, wilful ignorance and non-facts?

You could just watch Fox News.

i think their point is, and correct me if im wrong, that people that want to debate are fine, its the people that just spout random stuff to get a reaction, which seems to go on in GD that they are against.

i thought the OP point was he is not against debunkers per se but the personal attacks and abuse directed at the person for merely posting something they find interesting.

Granted it might not hold up to to rigid scientific scrutiny but neither does religion and people dont get ****ged off for their religion half as much on here... (or do they)

If op feels the criticism is more personal rather than objective then i guess just press the "alert moderator" button? problem solved?
