hi guys

i am looking for some advice on replacing my curent surround sound system, i currently have the Yamaha YAS207 Sound Bar that is supposed to give 5.1 surround effect but will be getting rid as i have found that when im listening to sports commentary the voice is drown out by the crowd noise.

so i am hoping that someone can give me a recommendation for a true 5.1 system max spend of £200 and i am happy to buy second hand if that helps with recommendations. i know very little about systems these days so need lots of advice. all i am looking for is something with good sound so i can hear the voices clear and bass control as i have old neighbours on both side so want to be able to take the bass down.

thanks for any help

The yamaha you have gets good
Reviews
Even mentioned testing it in the
Specific sport situation
You mentioned
Have you tried altering some options
Particularly mentioned clear voice
Option in review I just read

Sorry to say this, but it needs saying: You're wasting your time and ours.

I don't mean that in a derogatory sense. What I'm getting at is that until we find out why your YAS207 isn't giving you the result you want then it's completely pointless throwing money at other solutions. You could end up in exactly the same position because there's something about the way your other gear is set up that's hobbling the performance of the sound bar.

This was the question I asked you in your other thread when you wanted a surround system with all wireless speakers everywhere. https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/wireless-surround-sound-system.18877122/

That question and this one still stand. You need to provide some background info on the gear you own (makes and model numbers) and how things are wired right now. This is even more important given the very restrictive budget you have to play with.

You need to increase your budget, £200 is nothing you'll get a cheap and nasty 5.1 system.

£200 will just about get you a budget stereo system but I'd be looking at second hand.

Ideally £800 minimum for 5.1 maybe £1000.

The yas 207 is yamahas budget range.

The ysp range is much better and I've owned 3 yamaha soundbars so far. 1 yas and 2 ysp.

For £200 I recommend you stick with what you have or buy 2.0 speakers.

Otherwise upgrade to ysp 2700 or better or seperates when you have a much larger budget.

reading your comments and thanks for the info,
i know the yas 207 has good reviews as i checked before the purchase, i still find though that the sports commentary is drowned out by the crowd noise, the surround effect is very very limited, and also the top end volume is quite,

the back ground is the sound bar is connected to mt samsund q9 65" and is connected via "hd cable" to the tvs one connect box. i am not sure if the samsung 1 connect box would make any difference although i cant see how or why.

Obviously it's not true surround
But even so
I have a Samsung sound bar on my pc
As well as the desktop speakers
The sound bars
On the floor
When I mess around with the equaliser
Or the surround effects
Cinema ~music ~sport~voice etc
It does give a reasonable
What I would probably
Call widening effect
Rather than surround
Have you played around with the
Settings?
On mine the voice setting
Actually is better for sports events
Than the sports setting

yes i have played with setting but got very little benefit from it all to be honest, i can hear a difference but nothing major,

That's fair enough
Everyone has different hearing
So what sounds ok
To me may not to you
I have never bothered with a
Surround set up
As need ideally a nice square/rectangular room with no
Furniture blocking a speaker etc
Ideally rear speakers wall mounted
Then running the cables is a pain
If don't want to see them
As said though not sure £200
Will get much unless 2nd hand
I assume anything decent will need an amplifier
Rather than just connected to TV itself
Really you need someone knows
More than me about this
I would have to go Google
To get some ideas of what your
Budget could get you

as read in a bove post i am looking at the ysp 2700 as sound like it might fit the bill, although unsure how loud will be compared to the yas 207 i currently have for playing songs ?

The 2700 goes louder than I can comfortably listen too. It sounds good for music although I use a pair of homepods for my music.

I doubt you will get one for £200 though unless you find a really good second hand deal. It’s a great sound bar and well worth the money.

It's a proper surround sound bar. It goes extremely loud. It comes with a calibration mic which if you use properly then you can imitate a proper 5.1 setup.

Make sure you place the mic at head height at your seating position when calibrating.
