i already have a case a Coolmaster Stacker STC-01

• Motherboard - Intel Hunter Cove DH55HC H55 Socket 1156 DVI VGA HDMI Out 8 Channel Audio ATX
• Processor - Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz Socket LGA1156 8MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor
• Memory - Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz XMS3 Memory Kit CL9 unbuffered
• HDD Western Digital WD3200AAKS 320GB SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM Caviar Blue
• Graphics Card - PowerColor HD 5770 PCS+ 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card

could anyone off advice if this would be ok, or if i should improve anywhere. budget is 600-800.

If you're using quite a lot of graphics applications/video rendering etc you could go for an i7 sandybridge system. Would give you the best performance for that sort of things.

something like:

Obviously with your budget you could also stick a SSD in there as well or upgrade from 4GB RAM to 8GB.

Also all depends on whetehr you're going to OC it as well. If you are, these MSI boards are apparently really simple to do it with. Not sure if that CPU comes with a stock cooler or not so I added one on. (always get confuzzled between retail and OEM).

Might also want to change HDD to 1TB for another £15 or so.

It should fit, but as it says here:

use of a very large ATX mainboard that covers that hole will render the X-Flow fan mounting redundant

Not sure how big that mobo will be in relation to the case specifically, so I can't say if it'll affect your X-flow fan. But that case is pretty old anyway, may I ask why you're reluctant to upgrade? Is it so wifey doesn't know you've bought new PC parts?

i read somewhere there was some issues with the sandy bridge is this true>

No, not any more. There was issues with the P67 motherboards at first but that has all been fixed with the B3 revisions. Just make sure the board you get is a B3 revision and it's all good.

+1 for J-FRO's build but with the 8GB he linked

Everything he specced is still good, probably opt for a better cooler - Corsair A50 or Gelid Tranquillo imo. Here's a spec which is an alternative including a Z68 board for quicksync, which accelerates video transcoding (if you don't need that go with the board J-FRO specced as it's £90 now), double the RAM, double the hard drive space.
