new system advice

hello there

i'm in the process of deciding on a new system and was hoping for a little advice. it's my intention to use it for a bit of gaming, nothing too strenuous, nwn, dragon age etc and for a some light cad work. i've got a budget of around £500 though this would need to include an os unless i can get away with using xp pro???

i've been looking thorugh a number of threads and this recent one seems to fit the bill, although a little over on price, http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18263528 , would this be suitable with a few tweeks?

also, whilst i like the idea of building a system and learning about the process would i be better picking up an oc'd system?

thanks for you time and any advice you can give.

cheers

A few tweaks you say;)

You get a lot more bang per buck if you build it yourself:)

Heres the closest OCUK pre-built system I can find

added win7 and selected the best GPU available from the options list, but the GTX430 is no where near as good as a ATI 5830 card.

thank you for the prompt response, with some of the components being oem will i need any additional cables/connectors, or will everything i need come with the motherboard?

also, would there be a significant difference in performace if a similar setup was based on an AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition and perhaps a 5850?

thanks again for your time

The only thing I can think of is maybe adding a SATA cable just incase,

and to put it bluntly a phenomii 955be will be eaten by the 2300 sandybridge cpu, it even beats the 975be cpu which is 200mhz faster than the 955be - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2500-2400-2300_7.html#sect0

ordered as suggested but managed to find a little extra and dropped a 5850 in the basket

now it's fingers crossed i don't fudge the build

thanks again for your time

all the best

i did indeed - i'd seen it mentioned in a few other builds and there seemed to be some good comments made so i spent less on a wedding present for this weekend and more on a graphics card - i'm sure they'll understand :)
