Hi folks,

I setup my new system yesterday but have found the system to be unstable; sometimes causing a BSOD and causing a system restart. I am running everything at stock, no overclocking:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA663)
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS SuperClocked 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (320-P2-E815-AR)

I installed the 8800GTS and PSU on my old system before buying the new system parts for a few days, and received no instability issues.

I have the abituGuru program installed so I can monitor my CPU and system temp. Idling it's at 35oC, which rises to around 50oC when running Orthos on the CPU stress test.

When I run the CPU and Memory test it hits a snag, here's the error:

Test 1, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922945 using 1024K FFT length.
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
Torture Test ran 0 minutes 4 seconds - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted.

I can't seem to find the stress.txt file.

If this is important, here are the voltage settings according to abit uGuru:

VCore = 1.3v
DDR2 = 1.8v

Any help appreciated. I'm willing to expand further as requested.

Make sure you have set the Manufacturers Stated Memory Frequency, Timings and Voltages. Very Important.

So for the Crucial Ballistix that would be:

667 MHZ Frequency

CAS - 3
tRCD - 3
tRPD - 3
tRAS - 12

2.2v

Edit: Doh! You edited :X

Thanks for your help -- have never had to do this before. Is this something to do with the hardware I've purchased, or is this starting to become the norm?

Hi stickroad,

Where do I find these? :X

Go into the BIOS, you might have to search around for it, since im not sure of the BIOS layout of that Abit board.

Memory timings should be located under the North Brigde settings but like i said, BIOS varies from one board to another.

Yeah, sorry, I got your post before the edit so I was enquiring where to get the proper timings, rather than where to edit them!

Thank you for your help. I'll go give this a go and report back!

Okie dokie. I've changed the memory timings in the BIOS. Only slight issue was that the CAS option had "auto", "4", "5", "6" ... but no "3". Seemed a little odd?

Is my Q6600 ok at 1.3v?
