Hi,

I've decided to invest in a new PC, haven't the interest in building my own so thought I'd get a system from OCUK.

System use is for general PC usage by my Dad and then gaming from time to time by myself

I'd appreciate thoughts on the following: -

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,135.00 (includes delivery: £0.00)

From having a look through the Forum I see that giving them a call to change the PSU is the general consensus, any recommendations on that?

Also, this system comes with a Seagate 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive, I was a little surprised, not sure why, but thought the majority would be SSD?

Thoughts and advice welcome.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll certainly swap the mechanical drive for an SSD, was thinking of WD Black over Blue, the Black being slightly cheaper currently.

Regarding the PSU, would it be prudent to take the 750 over the 650 from Corsair, for future upgrades, possibly GPU in a few years?

Yes 750w will give more headroom for upgrades so if budget allows then why not.

Mite be worth getting a better cpu cooler, this is great little cooler for £15 .

Thanks once again, I'll go with your recommendation on the cooler, as again it appears from reading threads this is another component that to change.

Your welcome .

I guessed dad dint want any RGB :D

If you want something a bit more asteticaly pleasing its nearly double the price.

No, strangely it wasn't even a question!! :-)

Will have a look at the Kolink, besides aesthetically pleasing and more expensive, any great advantage over the other?

Let's us know when you get it and what you think .

Enjoy.

Well what can I say…

First thing that’s noticeable is just how quiet it is, both generally and compared to my previous aging PC.
Admittedly, it hasn’t been tasked with anything too strenuous to date, but I can’t see there being a massive increase in noise when it does. The quality and tidiness of the build is what I was expecting from OcUK, but when you see it in the flesh it’s a site to behold. Certainly very pleased with the purchase and thanks for taking the time with your recommendations and advice and a big thanks to OcUK for putting it together.

One thing the new PC has highlighted is the need to upgrade my aging monitors (Samsung SyncMaster B2430 & BenQ GL2450), but I’ll start a separate thread in the Monitors section regarding those.

What did your Dad think of the new pc ?
Very pleased with it, more so once I changed the Rainbow RGB LED display to something more subtle!

Regarding monitors... There's currently a **B Grade** MSI OPTIX 27" G273QF listed for £280, which seems great value. However, being B Grade is it worth it? They don't appear to list the reason for it being B Grade, and I'm a little hesitant in getting it as a result.

Good point and even more so upon looking at the Gigabyte 27" M270 V2 for the same price and new.

I'll have a read of the reviews, but at first glance it appears to be more than suitable for my needs.

I wouldn't get b grade monitor just in case there's a dead pixel , but if you don't mind taking the risk then you can probably get it cheaper by making them an offer.

This is a good monitor but no gsync , if interested check out reviews.

Have had a look at a few reviews on this monitor and something that was raised of one of them was that it uses an unconventional BGR subpixel layout which can result in that text appears somewhat blurry with noticeable red and blue subpixel fringing.

I already find that the on screen text in Windows and Word etc. not as sharp as I'm expecting and I'm worried that this would only add to this problem. It's strange as I only really notice this on the lighter back grounds, especially in Word, and much less so on darker ones e.g. OcUK Forum blue.

This led me to a possible alternative (Gigabyte 32" M32Q), admittedly larger in size and a little over I was looking budget wise, but a good monitor none the less, if not superior to the 27".

If you feel that the larger monitor is better suited than go for it but going to 32" the pixel density is less

Would Google 1440p 27" v 32" before you make your decision.

Noted... regarding the pixel density and will stay with the 27"

This one offering G-Sync as well: -

Looks like a good option with benefit of gysync and had a look on Rtings for review which wasn't to bad at that price. It's may be a case of splitting hairs to find the best.

My Monitor knowledge is somewhat limited but you could still post another thread in monitor section for further advice before you pull the trigger.
Cheers, appreciate your thoughts and I'll be sure to update my thread in the Monitors section to see if anyone has any thoughts between few that have been mentioned in this thread.
