new system build with video card and hdd

Hmm, I think I'm looking at quite a lot more for 16GB. Not too worried about modular - I assume this psu will be fine for powering a 6+2 port on the card?

Its made by HEC, a budget PSU OEM manufacturer.

Also have a closer look at the Antec case, it seems to have more fans fitted as standard and they have simple fan controllers also.

Just for an update - got all the new parts delivered to work today and have assembled it this evening. It's lovely, and very very quiet compared to my previous machines.

Super happy - thank you to all for the input!

So - this rig is now, what, 18 months old?

As I feared it was cheap and not very able at the more high end.

Is there any way to upgrade this to make it faster (and better graphically)? Or am I doomed?

Could also just buy a new rig, but that feels over the top.

Improvements for £500?

Intel Core i5-4590 3.30GHz (Haswell)
Asus H81M-PLUS Intel H81 (Socket 1150)
Asus Radeon R9 380 DirectCU II Strix OC 4096MB GDDR5

The PC just doesn't do stuff as quickly as I'd like really - even loading times are very slow sometimes.

Was thinking an SSD would help - but is the GPU worth swapping out? Or the CPU?

Just painfully aware I kept the cost low originally, and would like a little more

A system with that spec should not be slow it must be to do with your hdd or you have loaded it up with too muc or even have something like malware/spyware & so on

purchase a ssd it will make a difference.

SSD first and foremost, for sure yes, from what you say. Then see. GPU upgrade would come next, if frames aren't sufficient for the titles you enjoy or you change to higher res/refresh rate monitor. i7-4790/K CPU and 16GB RAM I'd put joint third on the upgrade list. However, these last two you'd do better to postpone if possible, because you'd be buying into old platform stuff, and you may as well wait to move onto a newer platform (and DDR4 RAM), if performance is reasonable.
