Hi all,

First post on the forum and you probably guessed what it's regarding :D

Could you please cast your eyes over the following spec and provide feedback/suggestions. Would like to stay within same budget.

YOUR BASKET

1 x Samsung S23A700D 23" 120Hz 3D Widescreen Gaming Monitor - Black £239.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £163.99
1 x Samsung 256GB SSD 830 Series SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive - (MZ-7PC256B/WW) £149.99

1 x Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/LGA2011/AM2/AM3) (CWCH100) £85.98
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) £69.98
2 x Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9B) £37.99 (£75.98)
1 x Samsung SH-224BB/BEBE 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £1,492.94 (includes shipping : £20.10).

Sorry, couldn't work out how to do the 'Your Basket' template I've seen used in other threads. I have OS so do not need to add that. My only real concern is the cooler fitting in the case, but please provide recommendations on the overall build.

Thanks :)

Hi and welcome.

Heres how you get the basket to display nicely - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18371076

The PSU lets you down in that great looking spec.

But then trying to find something with ample power for possibly two GFX cards in SLI (I assume you would like that?) and not too much money is hard.

This 600w PSU is a perfect colour match for the case - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-014-PP&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=2179

It's made by Seasonic, but ideally you would be wanting around 700W+ for GTX670 in SLI.

Edit,

Watch this to see how great the case supports the H100,

Thanks, I've edited original post :)

SLI is something I'd like to do in the future. Changed PSU to a Corsair 750W.

Ah really? I did originally choose the Antec Kuhler H2O 920 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-006-AN
Again wasn't sure about it fitting the case!

You can't read between the lines my friend ;)

The spec has some great components and it's styled very well.....even the RAM matches the colour of the mobos heatsinks. Low profile to allow more clearance just in case the RAM "fouls" the rad. The low profile "water block" helps show off the mobo and RAM. I can tell he put time into this.

To put in a proper watercooling system will be more expensive and more hassle........it would look awesome with white in the tubes though ;) The H100 can be noisey at "full chat" but switching out the fans is still going to work out cheaper and remember the CLC coolers dont need maintenance. The H100 is the best CLC to go for as it has the biggest radiator so will cool better.

There is an Asus 670 on offer with 4GB of VRAM adding a second card for SLI could be hassle though over time. He would have to weigh that up himself.

The XFX 850W modular would make more sense and it's priced lower than the 750W version.....silver rated as well for efficiency which is nice :)

The Kuhler will fit the case, but will be on the inside more (thick radiator sandwiched between two fans) and on the rear fan mount position, I gave an alternative air cooler above that looks the nutzz.

But with it's size you lose the "minimalist" look obtained by the H100.

Edit, heres what a Kuhler920 looks like in my case - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=22853004&postcount=6567

Yes thank you, I had my reply screen up before seeing your post :)

Is the H100 really that bad then?

The Kuhler looks pretty good imo. Ahh not sure now...

Yes and No. The H100 is prefered if the case can take it, the antec is good for almost any case. Stulid and I are assuming you are trying to style the build and show off the inside. Better cases to do that with a side window though to be fair but thats your choice not mine.

As I said at full speed the H100 fans are a bit loud, it is adjustable though so dont think it will make a racket 24/7. You could swap the fans out for white ones or whatever which are of a better quality i,e make less noise if you want later to continue the colour theme. Depends what value you put on the looks I suppose

Never used one, I know a high end air cooler will always beat these closed loop water coolers,

H100 review.

But it's the "style" they provide that helps them (I've seen some seriously pimp rigs in the "The New Cases Gallery" thread using H80/H100/Kuhlers etc)

P.S, get a modular PSU.

One word........Classy :D

I suggested that PSU earlier and sticking with the Windforce is more than fine.

Adding an extension for the P4/8 power socket on the mobo might be wise to help hide it behind the mobo tray. Not a necessity really but does look much better and helps airflow in the case.

If you wanted to tinker later, you could change the fans and add colour braided extensions etc. I'll leave that down to you as again this is could be more "style" than substance ;)

Ah don't make me go and look at more cases! Spent days already browsing all sorts and did originally want one with a window. Liked the nzxt phantom 410 in white, but was put off by it's plastic door on the front. the bitfenix shinobi cases are also quite nice...

Thanks, that's looking good. If I was to go with another cooler, would the RAM still fit or switch back to low-profile?

Switch back for a 100% guaranteed fit.

There maybe some coolers that can take taller RAM (normal Vengeance RAM usually is too tall for example, but Ripjaws and the above Patriot isn't as tall) or some coolers even have the ability to be able to move the fan up the face of the cooler a bit, but finding which ones etc would take to much research for me on a Saturday night to do.

I know the Noctua NH-D14 can fit Ripjaw RAM underneath without issue.

I am tempted to stick with the H100. A bit of reading suggests the noise only becomes excessively loud on it's highest setting, which I do not believe I'll need most of the time, if at all. The video provided by Stulid earlier shows how easy it is to install with the 500r case and will leave plenty of room for the cool looking Patriot RAM ;)

Tiny Tom Logan (TTL) at OC3D rates the H100 as the only CLC worth the bother really. He has tested other fans through it too with video review.

The RAM stulid used is a great price and colour matches. In my eyes being a skin flint, I would always go LP on the RAM. As it has a lifetime warranty there is a good chance you will have it for some time and might want to reuse it for another setup......so buying faster RAM can be "justified" with that argument also. Cas ratings between 9 and 11 make little odds in the real world to be quite honest.

Your spec looked great apart from the PSU. I'd love to see a build log or atleast a few pics of it complete.....that i5K is on offer today only, dont wait too long and miss out!

I've just ordered with the basket Stulid provided ;)

It's funny about the PSU, it was the only component I had recommended to me. Guess I won't be asking that person for suggestions again :p

I will do my best to do a build log and take pictures. These will however need to be taken on my phone as my camera is currently broken :(

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions, much appreciated :D
