Hi Guys,

I've just built my new computer, arrives next week. But im having trouble with my monitor selection, hoping you can help.

My new spec is:
i5-6600k (skylake) Overclocked to 4.6
Gigabyte Z170XP Motherboard
16Gb kingston DDR4 Ram 2666mhz
GTX 980 Ti
250Gb Samsung 850 Evo SSD
Corair H100i GTX hydro cooling

I bought this monitor yesterday and it arrived today, XB270HU V2
However its going back as its got a cluster of dead pixels. And it was tonight that I decided that i really dont know much about the right type of monitor i need with my new rig.
My gaming choices arent so much FPS, they're more like Fallout, Xcom, Witcher, Dragon Age.. Games that can look great with the right screen, so im thinking im more IPS than TN. But do you think i need G-sync, or is my rig good enough to run a 1440p monitor without the need for g-sync...

Any thoughts welcome, please help!!! its driving me nuts... too much choice out there. And Acer have seriously worried me with their quality control today, and they seem to be the only supplier of decent sized G-Sync monitors... But do i need G-sync? see what I mean, its confusing people!!!

HELP!

Right well, depends on your requirements first of all.

You're right in that thinking if you don't need FPS/competitive advantages, you probably don't need 120hz. IPS definitely sounds more up your alley. As for G-sync, it's really debatable, I think. If your rig can handle 60fps just fine (which it looks like it definitely can!) then you can get away with a non g-sync IPS, which opens up your options a lot more.

Don't discount the Asus Swift so easily. It's a TN sure, but it's a bloody high quality one! And that's coming from someone who's been using ips/va monitors for years....
