High time I updated my system, and I'd thought of using these components:

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)

Asus P5B (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz

I have a decent case (SavRow SR-71), good psu (Seasonic 600W), decent optical drives.

I mainly use my computer for gaming.

Does anyone have any comments about the above components, their potential compatibility, and such like?

Thanks for all suggestions and input.

everything looks good there but to be honest with this RAM so dirt cheap i would go for that :p

*edit* if you can spare another £10 this MOBO is a very good clocker

*edit 2* Actually with the money you save on the ram you can easily afford the mobo

Yeah I'd agree with the ram substance suggested :)

I overclocked my e6600 to 3.4ghz with it.

Problem is I bought it a month ago when it was £120 inc vat
so it's a quality bargain now.

Thanks all for the replies, the RAM recommended looks much better value for money.

In addition the Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 looks definitely attractive.

Would it be worth spending the extra (a substantial extra too, £60-ish) and going for the Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 over the E6600? What do you think?

The 6600 is much better value don't waste your money on the 6700 - you'll be able to overclock past the speed of the 6700 easily.

^What he said.

Also, what resolution do you usually game at?

Ah ok, was just wondering if it was worth looking at the GTS 640. But the 320 should be more than good enough for that res, I believe. I think the general consensus around here is that anything up to 1680x1050 is fine on the 320.
