I'm going to buy this stuff from OCUK like always but I just wanted to check a few things...

hard drive - will I notice sata3 speed over sata2?

ssd for OS- this samsung ssd says notebook edition - and i noticed there is a desktop version - is this a change in hardware or software or something?
I do video editing and photoshop work and heard the Samsung might be the best there is about at the moment for uncompressed data?

I will be dual booting OSX and Win7:

CHIP
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM

SSD
Samsung 256GB SSD 830 Notebook/Apple Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost

BOARD
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

DRIVE
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003)

RAM (16gb total)
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU)

Time is money so if you do a lot of batch conversions ,maybe, you will have to way up if its worth paying the extra cash.

I would definately go with an ivy brdige processor.

Thanks Micky - I do agree- however I'm coming from a q6600 so I'm already saving time at a 3rd less cost.. I'll have a think.

The ivybridge chips won't be as good to overclock as the sandys tho will they?

There not as good to overclock, but they are approx 10% faster than the sandybridge and should easilly clock to 4.5ghz. Also have better intergrated graphics and native usb 3 and pci express 3.

I wont be using the integrated graphics as I plan on running dual display off my gcard- what does native usb 3 and pci express 3 mean to a chip? I thought the motherboard was what gave the usb3 capability and I'm only using a single 260gtx card so not sure I need pci 3 capabilities?

Thanks for your time

Correct alexxx the Z77 motherboard does support the features but to take advantage of pci 3 you need to have an ivybridge cpu.

Anyway im sure you will be happy with your purchase.
