It's been about ten years since I last built a PC so I'm well out of the loop. My target is to have a PC that can play GTA V and The Witcher 3 at 1080p60 as I'll be using my Sony Bravia HDTV via HDMI to play.

I really like the size and style of the case in the above and I think an Intel i5 Skylake will be sufficient but I have no clue about the GPU requirements although I definitely want nVidia. I've always been an Intel/nVidia guy.

Budget is about £600. I need the computer and a backlit keyboard. Already have display, mouse and I should be able to transfer my Windows 10 licence across.

Many thanks.

Good god. The 980Ti is £600 on its own. Thanks for the reality check. :p

To be honest, they don't really need to be in ultra graphics mode, just look as good as the console versions. A 960 will do that surely?

A 960 will be more than enough to produce superior visuals than the console versions, but you have to remember the console versions only run at 30fps.

It will be a compromise with a 960, higher detail than the console games but locked to 30fps, or lower the graphical quality but have a variable 30-60fps...your choice.

Thanks, well I definitely want to hit 60fps otherwise it's a bit pointless. :)

I now ask myself what am I really going to do with this. I shall probably have to compromise and take a lower quality hit to the graphics on the new titles or just play them on the PS4.

So let's revise the objective and say I want to be able to play the last-gen titles at 1080p60 which were only 720p30 on the PS3. Things like Far Cry 2 and 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Elder Scrolls V, Kingdoms of Amalur, Mass Effect trilogy, Borderlands and Batman trilogies with all the fancy PhysX effects, etc.

What do I need for this now?

I'd say a 960 would be able to play all of those games at 1080p 60fps at pretty much maximum settings with only the amount of Anti Aliasing having to be adjusted for each game, with the exception of the final Batman game..that was just a stinker of a PC port, even top end cards struggle with that.

Far Cry 3 would be the most demanding of those other games you listed.

Overall, a 960 would be an excellent purchase for those games.

I can confirm that both of those titles run fine on a 970. I've never felt any kind of lag while playing them pretty much at ultra settings @1080p (I usually let Geforce experience decide the detail settings) and it's night and day compared to playing them on a console ;)

Is your final budget £600? could you not increase your budget to say £800 as then you wont need to upgrade as fast so you would get another year or two out of it anyway

If you want to hit 60fps you need to be looking at the 970 or above. The 980ti is a great card and can be picked up for close to 500 if you shop around, or maybe 2nd hand off the bay? ( Theres a Gigabyte G1 980ti on the bay with 4 hours left currently on 440 ). If you don't wanna buy 2nd hand get a 970, you might wanna up your budget to fit in a powerful card if wanting to run every game flawlessley maxed out. I would sell the PS4 as they are crap and put that towards a card :) ( Not a console fan )

Edit - theres a B grade 970 on sale at ocuk here might be worth getting https://www.overclockers.co.uk/b-gr...096mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphi-bg-001-gx.html Ask them what is up with it to be B grade, sometimes they are just returns I think.
