I've just looked at the creative installed software and there is only one item out of a huge list that is 64 bit ... everything else is 32 bit ... I think I may have found the problem .... I will start to download the dedicated 64 bit software ..... before i re-install like you have suggested ...
OK removed the card and rebooted .. made sure everything to do with creative was deleted. Had the new driver and it's update on the desktop. Shut down, re-installed card. Re-booted. Windows tried to install it's own drive which i cancelled. Installed the creative driver then it's update. Rebooted. Message stating that new software for x-fi installed. It shows it installed as a driver in device manager and that the card is functioning ok ... but device is not recognised by it's own software?? AGAIN .....
Ok I've done all this over and over and still no joy .... I've downloaded all new software and drivers and updates and nothing .... I cab see the soundcard in device manager yet if i try and open up audio console it gives an error of "this audio device is not supported by this software"
If I remove the soundcard and reboot then check device manager, the "ATI high definition audio device" shows that it is offline as well?? Is it possible that the creative soundcard has been labelled wrong?
I also note that if I refit the soundcard and reboot, windows assigns a driver before I even have chance to install from the cd or downloaded drivers. Would this have an effect on reinstallation of new drivers?
can't do that it will not accept an older version. I can't find anywhere that will enable compatability mode for the software used ... also the drivers and software I've downloaded are supposed to be dedicated to Win7 and 64 bit .....
