New system headaches, judge my spec and tell me what to do...

"but if your not overclocking, for the same price as the q6600 i suggest getting a higher clocked dual core for gaming mate. you will benefit a good bit more and wont bottleneck that graphics card :p"

Woah i have q6600 not Overclocked and a 4870 1gb runs everything pretty well , are you suggesting the cpu is bottlnecking the gpu?

I'd get the Q6600 personally and clock the hell out of it. You'll struggle to play the likes of GTA 4 on a stock dual core. Tbh you'd probably get 3ghz out of a q6600 on the standard heatsink and possibly without having to touch the voltages either.

I would say go back to the Q6600. I have one in my rig, more and more software is being released that takes advantage of the extra cores. General application switching also feels quicker than when I had a dual core. GTA 4 I think runs better with a quad core than dual as well?

They're also very overclockable if it ever takes your fancy for a free speed increase.

Hmmmmh, bit lost again, the price difference is negligable so I'm not sure how to come to a final decision, but thanks all the same folks, confused me a bit, but all advice helps.

As I said before, theres no right answer as to whether you should go dual or quad core, and you'll find different people arguing for both. As it stands now you'd gain more form a higher clocked dual core as there arent many things that can use 4, but some people speculate that in the future more apps/games will make more use of 4 cores. I argue theres no way to see into the future so stick with dual, but thats just my opinion, as I say theres no right or wrong really so dont worry, whatever way you go will be good
