Hey . . .sorry as I know there are so many of these kind of spec help threads!

Have got a Radeon 4850 but otherwise need a complete new system.

Basically I don't have a clue but the system will be mainly for gaming. Firstly not sure whether to buy seperate components or go for a pre built system? Consider in this I dont know how to start putting a system together .. .

I can't spend more than £500 . .

The situation is kind of desperate, (cue sad music) having an operation next week and gonna be laid up at home for 2 weeks . . .need to be able to game!!! Current comp no good as 7600GT died, is currently running an inbuilt GPU and the 4850 wont fit in it (lol) Not sure any of the components are worth salvaging . .

Thankyou very much overclockers :)

thx . . .will the 2nd GPU make a lot of difference? wat about OS? Can i jst use my XP media center DVD?

:)

Ah.

OS.

Forgot.

Well, you could drop the second GPU for that. The 2nd GPU won't give you double frame rates, but you'll get a pretty nice performance boost.

You can always buy another 4850 in the future, there's room for expansion with that mobo.

Edit: Ah jeez, and PSU. I knew I was forgetting something. Or 2.

if you can build one yourself then go that route better value for money and everyone hear can help as much as they can
but if you are worried about going that route buy prebuilt they can still be veyr good and you can always add your gpu to them in crossfire if you buy the write one form overclockers i expect

Thanks RJC (for both posts!)

I think I will keep my old comp as is and give it to my girlfriend . . .will prob get some good loving out of that . . .! Therefore need new CPU etc . . .therefor only component I really have is the 4850 . . .

thx Danneh ... am I better off getting that OS over reusing XP media edition? oh and need a HD too

Durp. Problem is, I'm using my own current cart as a checklist, I forget I'm getting some components from other sites.

Disregard me, I'm going loopy. Perhaps you should be the one speccing me. :D

Is your OS retail or OEM? Retail OS's can be reinstalled as many times as you like, but an OEM copy is tied to the motherboard that it was first installed on. If you bought it from a shop, chances are, it's a retail copy.

If it's a retail copy you can drop the OS in that list, and get a HDD or two.

Ha . . .no yr doing a grand job . . .I'm clueless remember ;)

The OS DVD says its only for reinstalling OS on a dell PC . .so maybe OEM?

Maybe if I add this HD: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-138-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=768

As his pc is a Dell chace are it wil be OEM, Dan J look at the authenticity sticker on the case or look in control panel.

Lol, you will be fine :)
Take your time, read the manual for the motherboard - or even download now and read it a few times.
One thing I always do is clear the CMOS before starting for the first time and don't forget the 4/8 pin for cpu power - this will be in the manual.

When it arrives don't forget to posts pics!!!
Enjoy ;):D
