Hey guys,

I'm upgrading my system and want to change my TFT Monitor for something bigger and better. I want between 20" - 24" size. Want to be able to play games without ghosting, good picture quality for films and optional to connect my xbox 360 to it.

Any suggestions?

I have heard Dell are good at the minute but not sure where to look.
 
Well, If I haven't got a clue then I would post "Spec me a piece of String" thread.

I think most people would, it's not like I haven't looked...
 
I am also looking for a 24" monitor at the moment as an upgrade from my current 19" SyncMaster 913N 4:3 monitor.

After reading a load of reviews and posts on here for the last few weeks, I will probably end up going with the BenQ FP241W 24" Widescreen monitor (£399.49 inc VAT). I am a rather heavy gamer, but also will be using it for watching movies etc. so I feel it is a good buy. I haven't heard of any issues regarding ghosting or bad response times. If you have, let me know!

On another note (slightly hijacking thread), since my 913N is a TN monitor from quite a few years back, would you guys say that the BenQ would have a faster response time?
 
I've checked BenQ and Dell, they seem the best ones around at present.

BenQ FP241W 24" and Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC 24" are very similar imo, the only difference is the cd/m2 Brightness... probably more but only noticed this.

Another note, do people suggest going for 20" rather than 24" cos of the size? Some people say they feel its too big, or they being too daft?
 
I thought I had heard people complaining about slight ghosting on the 2407WFP-HC (could be wrong there).

Loads of people are using large monitors (24" +) for gaming now and it is becoming the norm. It really depends on personal preference, but remember that there are 22" monitors as well as 20" and 24" ;). Also depends how far you are going to be from your monitor, if you are playing on your 360 sitting further away, the bigger the better. The same applies to watching films.

I know that in my case, as soon as I bought the 20" I would want a bigger monitor soon enough :p.

What I mean is - how can people recommend things for you without specifying a budget, a la "how long is a piece of string?".
 
Thats a nice looking monitor.

It's definitely between, the Dell and BenQ, unless someone says otherwise.

If you had to pick, what would you say?

BenQ FP241W 24"
Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC 24"
Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP 24"
 
Also, bear in mind that the native resolution of a 24" screen is 1920x1200 ;), so make sure you have a capable system (graphics card) to run games smoothly, although you can play games at lower resolutions - it just won't be the same!

I think I should be okay, looking at getting: Asus GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express).

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on most monitors, definitely the 3 mentioned above were the most talked about, and Hazro24. BenQ were highly recommended, with a few flaws but acceptable and Dell was the same but a few issues with ghosting.
 
I've got a dell 2407, the res is actually 1920x1200 ;) :p. Don't bother with a 9800GTX, you can get pretty much the same thing by getting an 8800GTS 512MB. An 8800GTS will be good enough for 1920x1200, I had a 2900XT which ran everything I had maxed (apart from crysis of course). I've got a 3870X2 now which is more than good enough.
 
After reading reviews and posts, I have to admit... I'm more than likely to look for another gfx card, need to read up more and get a few ideas.

Back to the monitor, the main thing that would wind me up the most is if I decided to get BenQ for example and found it wasn't that good, and then wished I'll got the dell monitor instead.

Or, am I just being too picky? Both monitors look great, and hope I get the performance I want, I would definitely notice the difference... going from a 17" to a 24". It'll be a big jump for me! :)

I've been talking to a few friends about my system I'm looking at getting. They feel that going with a 24" would be a big mistake due to res quality... the quality would be crap if it wasn't at max res, and any lower, the quality would be fussy.

Now, I would like to be able to run my xbox through this monitor I'm planning to get, but if it would cause problems I would have to decide whether to go without and aim for something lower, like 22"... whats your opinion?

I was recommended if I go with the 24" to aim for 9800GTX or 22" and 8800GTX would be fine.
